How can I globally set Subtitles to be turned on for User A and not have it affect all other users? I have one user (my Mom) who needs subtitles. It is a royal pain for me to walk her through how to do this each and every time. This unfortunately needs to be done by Movie and Season or even episode depending. I would prefer to have it done across her account for whatever device she uses.
There is currently a bug in server versions above 1.16.0 which prevents this from getting set correctly. You will have to wait for a bugfix or apply one the workarounds mentioned here: Managed user account can't set subtitles and audio language
Otto, that solution will allow for me to set Subtitles on for everything for a single user? When do you expect the solution to be implemented in a release? I am currently running 1.18.2.2015 on my server. If I were to make this change what will happen when the fix is released?
Going to give this a try and see what happens. Thanks so much.
It will allow you to define language preferences for each user account. https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/account
Each user with a separate plex.tv account needs to do this him-/herself.
You can use âSwitch Userâ to change into the user account of users who are in your Plex Home. Then access the âAccountâ page and make the selections. (this applies to both âmanaged usersâ and users who got invited to join your Plex Home)
Nothing will happen. You will need to make (or repeat) the changes after the fix has been baked into a new server software version.
Actually I donât know which one. Start with the oldest.
In your case, with a lot of shared users it is probably less messy to use the âdirect database editâ method, instead.
(Make sure to create a backup of the database file first.)
That doesnât make sense. If the disk I/O error i am getting is a bug, then how can I edit the database?
I am running Plex on a Windows 2012 R2 server if that makes a difference. I have about 40 users and only need to do this for one person. I created a backup, the edit of the database is where I am getting the disk I/O error.
You should use the same Windows user account which is also used to run Plex server.
Otherwise you may end up with files in your plex data folder which are either not accessible at all, or at least write-protected to the plex server.
I used DB Browser and can access the database. I checked my Momâs account and she has a 1 for both subtitle and audio. Going to have to log into Plex using her account and see about setting her account up or see what it is showing.
I logged into Plex with my Momâs credentials. I set her account to have English as default and all subtitles, etc for hearing impaired. I then opened a movie and had to manually turn on subtitles. Tried a TV Show with the same results. Then obviously no matter what I were to do this would never work. I would have to manually enable all subtitles for everything she would want to watch under her account at my house and hope it works at hers. Going to try it for one show and test.
Language showed EN which is correct. All of my users are actually setup the same. I am having her check if the settings are going to carry over, but I am not holding out much hope.
