Goodbye Plex it's been real!

I ran a small PMS on my computer for my family, I got the lifetime Plex pass when it was only $75. It feels like yesterday that they just increased the price to $129, and now it’s $250.

I’ve been sharing my Plex library with Family and Family only, so only my parents, my brother, cousin, and aunt & uncle have access for remote streams, and that’s the reason I upgraded to Plexpass to begin with. I now feel cheated out of all this as Plex is having an identity crisis and changing the way it is, they may as well not be a personal media server anymore, may as well get rid of PMS if they’re going to release their own content for rent, and free streams and tv shows.

I was there when they introduced Plex DVR. Hell, I got an HDHomeRun Prime to watch over Plex and record my media, too. When I got Verizon FioS TV before Frontier took over it and messed it all up.

But now it feels all for nothing, with the new Remote Watch Plans coming up, you either need that or a PLexpass, and I feel everyone’s scrambling and playing into Plex’s corporate greed strategy to get a lifetime Plex pass is why they increased it, because they know you will. I am switching over to Emby or Jellyfin because of this horrible business decision, and you should too, rather than ante up for a new subscription, because you are in fear of losing your content that you are watching. Make a note of the show, season, and episode you are watching, and have your PMS host swap to Emby or Jellyfin so you will know where you are at when they’ve made the change.

No it isn’t. For you and your family nothing will change.

For yourself… no change.

How am I impacted by these changes?

I have a lifetime Plex Pass subscription:

Nothing changes for you. You continue to enjoy all of your Plex Pass functionality and you can stream remotely from any Plex Media Server to which you have access.

For your family… no change, given they’re streaming from your server and you have a Plex Pass.

How am I impacted by these changes?

I do not have a Plex Pass, but stream remotely from a Plex Media Server:

To stream remotely starting on April 29, 2025, you will need a Remote Watch Pass or Plex Pass subscription on your account or the admin of the Plex Media Server from which you stream will need a Plex Pass subscription on their account.

They’ll only need a Plex Pass or Watch Pass if they also want to stream from another server where the server owner doesn’t have a Plex Pass.

If only that was true. https://forums.plex.tv/t/remote-streaming-stopped-working/916941

It is. You having an issue doesn’t change that. It just means you have an issue. As a first step you should restart your server.

That’s what I thought My aunt sent an email last night about it I was just researching it a moment ago, saying it was a bug that it was sent out and wasn’t needed. I don’t think it was I hosently, think it was purposely stragically sent out to gain subs, whether it was needed or not.

Because I remember a few months ago reading an article about Plex’s changes, and Plex Pass users can still share, like what you just said. SO I just looked it up and found out to clarify everything if I was remembering correctly, thanks guys
