I just read Plex is increasing their lifetime pass to $750 from $250 .A 200% price increase. Is this true. Do they want to go out of business or is this a last ditch effort to say in business. Who would be crazy enough to pay that?
They don’t want anybody to buy it, but they don’t want the blowback from going subscription-only, so they set a price point that’s effectively the same as removing it entirely.
Remote Watch is about $30/year.
PlexPass sub is about $70/year isn’t it ?
Lifetime PP will be $750.
If you have multiple clients then a few donations (payment breaks TOS) will make the numbers look positive ![]()
What does multiple clients have to do with anything? One single Plex Pass works for any client you sign in to with the associated account, and for anybody with access to your server to stream from you.
If you don’t buy PlexPass.
Edit - I thought my post was obvious but maybe not.
If I have 20 or 30 or 40 clients accessing my server for material but all are paying remote watch because I don’t have PlexPass, there is an alternative. I get a Lifetime PlexPass and they all get remote watch for free.
I’m not applauding the new pricing, just saying that some may see it as an option if they have a large client base.
FYI - I bought a Lifetime PP over 13 years ago, so, for now, none of this impacts myself or those accessing my server.
Oh, I forgot that some people run their Plex server like a business for strangers, not as a way to share media with family and close friends.
WOW, didn’t know I could make money RESELLING plex access to my servers, I been missing out on a lot of money, thanks for the heads up.
There are apparently more than 40 million Plex customers.
I’m sure customers use it for various purposes. Some violating TOS. Many violating media sharing laws.
Some like me, offering friends and family essentially free access to my server. A server that is essentially providing no monetary value to Plex.
Feel free but that wasn’t what I was suggesting at all.
I was making a case for purchasing the Lifetime PlexPass but you knew that.
it’s good that you have publicly alerted Plex to your violation of their TOS though ![]()
Lately I’ve been contemplating the statistical probability that any particular thread on these forums will turn in the Internet equivalent of Mos Eisley. It’s trending toward likely,
Honestly that’s how your post reads:
I hear congressmen also change their opinions often after receiving “donations” from certain groups.
I can’t control how someone interprets what I say.
That is on you and your interpretation.
Quote where I said specifically PlexPass server owners should sell access ?
Sheesh.
Indeed, seems to be a common thing in the USA. Almost applauded.
If I am forced into buying a new Lifetime PP for $750 and friends and family want to contribute to that, point to the issue. I have not and never will ask for payment as almost all use is my own use.
It seems there are some in here that hide behind a screen and yet preach ![]()
I already have two Aunty’s that contribute to my ISP monthly charge. They appreciate access to the grandkids holiday videos (our recent cruise as an example).
Plex have for now said no change for existing Lifetime PP customers. If that changes, it is likely I’ll fork out for Lifetime or move to subscription. I’ll make the decision at the time.
My need for PlexPass extends beyond remote watch.
If you think governments in other countries don’t have same issue you’re deluded. It’s just more discreetly done than in the U.S. with the current administration.
Anyway, I think veeejay said it best – there’s already a thread about this topic. Really no need for another one. “Is this true?” Naw, dog. Plex posted it on their site but It’s just a late April Fools joke. ![]()
@ExtremeTM You got two weeks to buy in Lifetime at the $250 price still, if you’re on subscription now. If you already have Lifetime, why do you care? Plex as a company disappearing isn’t the end of the world for anyone. It just means folks will have to learn to use other products.
I’ve been with them for more than 13 years. Cost me $75 AUD from memory.
If I had to buy Lifetime at $750 (USD ?) over the same period, that’s a lot more than a 200% increase ![]()
Still, $750 over 13 years (if they last another 13) is pretty much equivalent to current sub isn’t it ?
Oh the USA is quite unique in how openly they do it.
Plex is a little more obscure about how they move people to subs.
As for repeat threads, the more the better. The Ninjas will merge them or close them at some point.
Better they just disappear this thread. Nothing of value will have been lost.
I hope this is sarcasm. I really do.
Glad it was recognized as intended. I paid $119, $750 does seem a bit outrageous considering there are still things that do not work as they should.
