Google Chromecast support

Hi

Considering purchasing lifetime Plex Pass but really not sure of the benefits. I only want Plex to stream my music collection. It looks and works great except for a couple of annoying issues:

  • Without Plex pass I don’t get Chromecast album art. Even with it though it vanishes when I play to a group.

  • Audio frequently drops out completely and needs to be restarted.

  • My Bose devices don’t like receiving streams via Google. Works fine with Spotify, PiCorePlayer, radio services etc. Just no Plex

  • The main Plex server app through the web remembers what is playing. The Plex Amp app is much nicer but frequently

‘forgets’ it’s casting audio so you can’t skip tracks or increase volume

Are these bugs known and being worked on? The only mentions I can see are people, with similar issues from several years ago which is somewhat worrying.

PiCorePlayer works much, much better but is very ugly and I would need to set up a VPN to use externally I’m happy to pay for Plex but these issues are pretty annoying.

My advice is not particular to Plex:

Buy software for what it does for you today, not what you hope it might do tomorrow.

It sounds like Plex does not meet your needs today.

I try not to do that. As I said there isn’t anything out there (except Roon, which I can’t afford ) that does do everything.

I mention this in the hop that someone from Plex might look at this and see if it can be fixed.

I was trying to say it without saying it: assuming it’s a legit bug and not some subtle thing that is specific to your setup, it is still unlikely Plex will fix this soon. We simply don’t know their priorities. Sometimes we get pleasant surprises, sometimes we wait.

You can still use many Plexamp features without the Pass so you have more time to experiment before you think about spending money. Nothing that the Pass adds should factor in to your basic connectivity experience.
