The issue in
Plex kills audio for all apps on Chromecast with Google TV - #6 continues to be a problem. After using Plex, audio for all other apps on the Chromecast with Google TV is broken. The quickest fix is to reboot the device, but that’s an absurd thing to need to do regularly.

It makes Plex for my non-technical housemates a really poor experience. This was also brought up on Reddit in https://www.reddit.com/r/Chromecast/comments/l5l8xc/ccgtv_no_audio_after_using_plex/.

While I think the underlying issue is a bug in the Android OS – it should be taking back control of the audio device, by force if necessary – this only happens when using Plex. So I believe that the Plex client is doing something it should not be doing which causes this highly annoying bug.

I would definitely like to see this fixed so I can present Plex as a working to others. Having to play games like Force stopping Plex, rebooting the Chromecast, or any of the workarounds from the previous post only makes Plex look bad.

This has been driving me nuts. Force quitting the plex app works faster than rebooting. Plex is the only app I have that breaks the Chromecast like this and it happens it every time I use it.

Is this still happening for you @villainy (or anyone else)?

I wasn’t able to reproduce it just now. Usually, it’s my parents who run into this, so I’ve only tried quickly playing a bit of a show and then using either home or back to exit Plex without stopping the playback.

I’m now on Chromecast with Google TV version STTE.230319.008.R1.10015454 and Plex 9.25.0.2374 (a382b5b).
