Would be great for plex to confirm they’ll use this API (if possible) before people move to alternative media server
Struggling to understand why PLex are so quiet about what is IMHO a No-brainer feature. I for one would defo go for lifetime subscription if this feature went live and I’m sure I’m not alone.
In short it is because they don’t know how to get it to work with Google’s limited API.
So does that mean, If you want home intergration that I would have to look at another device (Alexa) to add this feature?
If by “home integration” you mean voice control, then Amazon’s Alexa is the only option, for now.
There is a slight chance that the new Local Home SDK which Google introduced at Google I/O a couple weeks ago has the features needed to connect the Google Assistant to a local Plex server, but I haven’t looked into it enough to know. It might just be a way to find the local path between two “cloud” devices and not be designed to provide any new device methods.
How many votes does this need to be seriously considered, even if just a Plex Pass beta feature first?
And ability to set recordings, or have Google home tell you (via reminder, or breakdown of the day) what shows and movies will be playing later!
+1 and in french too pls =)
+1 for that
+1. Please!!!
Please give me some good news , As i have automated my home with Google home mini’s and Nest Hub Broadcom+, Yeelight’s all is working fine here. The one thing missing is my Plex server in this story have to get a Spotify account on the side to play favorite music through my house. Greetings from The Netherlands !!
+1 given
Also a +1
+1 Please Please Please!
I’ve noticed Alexa always seems to get product integrations first. My guess is the Alexa API is better than Google’s. I do know however Google’s API as of now will most certainly permit us some basic control over Plex at least in the meantime?
But maybe it’s just not worth wasting dev resources on a half baked integration…
It would be much simpler if the smart assistant market was a monopoly
Plex have already stated many times that this is something that Google themselves is not capable of at the moment with Plex. Whether or not it’s the truth is beyond me.
I am not referring to using Google Assistant on the Nvidia Shield TV itself. I was referring to using Plex + Google Assistant via the original and primary: Google Home device.
The only thing I’ve really been able to use Google Assistant on the Google Home device with Plex is to play/pause/resume. I kinda gave up trying to get what I deemed were simple and logical commands to the Google Home to search and play media on my Plex TV.
No true, it can be done if they integrate it through ifttt, that’s what Harmony Hub did… No api needed from google.
why does alexa have support?
Because they are two different ecosystems run by two different companies?
