Google home integration

Have Plex agreed to implement this?

PLEASE! This is the only thing missing from plex!

No it’s not. Come on. There is a whole raft of feature requests for things missing from Plex.

Like: wake Windows for recordings, support for extra features on TV series, multiple EPG sources for multiple tuners, a way to sort favorite TV channels in the guide, manage multiple cuts of a movie, manually add/remove shows to On Deck, allow search to know about guest star metadata in shows, etc.

Didn’t think it was necessary to state the fact that this is my own opinion. Don’t care of any of the things you listed. I’d be happy if they just added support for google assistant

+1 wishing Plex and Google Home together on Shield TV. :grinning:

Wow, still nothing? This has been requested over a year ago and has gotten 1.6k upvotes, and no updates? Seriously Plex?

It has been mentioned a half dozen times or more in this thread that the reason they don’t have support is a technical problem with Google’s API. Unless Google has fixed that recently then it won’t matter how many up votes we have.

You are correct, they’ve addressed it (Took like 2 decades) but I just don’t understand how other companies can use those same API’s to allow google to talk to my thermostat, turn on/off lights, turn off the TV, etc, etc, etc.

I agree. The geek in me would like a technical explanation for what is in Amazon’s API that allows it but not in Google’s. Maybe it is related to the library of available commands or perhaps where the network traffic originates from. I don’t know enough about both platforms to know for sure.

Really disappointed. Plex pass had renewed and not any word of the only feature im waiting for.

When media servers were bad and transcoding choppy, WiFi flaky etc Plex was ideal but in the last few years things have moved on.

I can ask Google to do most things except play movies from Plex. It’s just not worth a Plex pass having to manually stream a movie to Chromecast. There are Chrome extensions that can do that from a Nas for free. Sure they don’t have home assistant integration… But neither does Plex.

This will be the last renewal I think.

Are there any solutions apart from the proxy phlex/flextv?

Thanks

Can we at least get an answer @Plex?

The answer is further up in the conversation.

There was a 3rd party extension that worked for a while with plex and google (FlexTV).
It needed to be added into plex manually.
If a 3rd party dev can get this working, albeit not a great implementation, i’m sure plex themselves can get this working, if they wanted to.

Or use emby: https://emby.media/hey-google-whats-your-coolest-new-app.html

Phlex/FlexTV worked for me for a bit, but no more. Why can’t Plex integrate this instead of a 3rd party?

+1 wishing Plex and Google Home together.

RIP to this feature request

Pretty much. Neither company truly cares and have demonstrated it time and time again
