But when it comes to the ability to understanding simple conversational language - including localized language - nobody comes close to Google Assistant.
And in my setup I can ask for everything (music/sonos, lights/Ikea) except controlling my Plex.
I don’t believe anymore on the “faulty google API” -
how did Sonos and Ikea solve the unsolvable?
Considering that Elan posted here, your responses aren’t supported by the facts.
And when the reason was posted by a Plex developer in detail on Reddit,
then Elan confirmed it’s accurate here, it fairly obvious the restrictions by Google
are strategic, not technical.
If Google wanted to expose their API, it would take a comically short amount of time.
So Plex is be better off challenging them to a game of hoops.
Or better yet dodgeball.
Don’t go to war with them. Marry into the clan. Even if you did win, eventually one of their daughters would get three dragons.
All the services that work with Google Assistant have a web site that all traffic originates from or runs through. The majority of Plex content is local.
I understand it takes a while to implement. Google can’t even get their own home mini and Chromecast devices to work reliably (albeit, they’re still better than Alexa). Not to take the side of the devs, but we have to be patient. A strong assurance from Plex devs that it’s high on the list of in process features, would (hopefully) go a long way in reassuring everyone though.
Could you explain what is the hold up by google? Tried to read the thread but could not find it. If Emby can do it, then its not clear why Plex Dev team is struggling?
If I had to speculate, I would say that maybe Google hasn’t or doesn’t open the API for random Joe content. Pretty much all the services that work with Google Home are centralized repositories of content, rather than tens of thousand of individual servers hosting who knows what.
So is this not what the Plex developers need to integrate? Sorry if I am wrong, I am just really wanting this feature as well. Wishful thinking
I looked at FlexTV(Phlex) but it looks too unsecured.
Description of the Cast SDK:
The Google Cast SDK enables you to extend your Android, iOS, or Chrome app to direct its streaming video and audio to a TV or sound system. Your app becomes the remote control to play, pause, seek, rewind, stop, and otherwise control the media.
Google Cast is designed for TV, movies, music, and more. Put your best video content on the biggest screens in the house, or bring your audio content to Google Cast for Audio devices and Google Home devices, including the new Google Home Hub.
