Google home integration

Baffled that this still isn’t a thing. I expected plex to be on the forefront here! Would be great to start a movie just like netflix.

My kids were using google this morning to watch something. I overheard google saying something like “Here are some suggestions tell me which one you like”. I walked in there and on screen there was 4 youtube videos. They said next page and it showed 4 more. I was very surprised by this as I had never seen the google home and chromecast interact in this way. They then would call out a number like #3 and the 3rd video would start playing. This would be perfect for plex. On the left side it could show the menu so like Movies, TV shows or whatever categories you have made. You could call Movies and it would load your movie list. tell it to say Show Comedies and it would sort out your comedies. Then it would just show them on your screen just like any other display and you could either call out a movie on the screen or say Next Page, Scroll, More, etc so show more of the list.

On a side note PLEX WTH I have had google home since it first came out and it annoys me you support alexa but not google. What is the hold up? Do someone on senior staff detest google or something so are avoiding it to spite them? If so the ones you are screwing over is US not THEM.

Earlier in the thread it was said that Google doesn’t have the features in the SDK to support integration with Plex.

Having Plex integrated on Google Nest Home would be ideal. Let’s not let the strategic interest of large corperations get in the way of progress.

Not sure if this means anything relevant here:

I agree we need this and also roku voice control support.

I would love this to happen, all my devices are google and all my media is on Plex. Would be amazing to have this connection.

+1 That would be a nice feature

Alexa yes and Google Home not… WHY???

Please make this happen!

Just bought a Google Assistant device and shocked to see that I can’t use voice commands to use my Plex. Especially since Android Auto does exactly that for years now…
Even more shocked that the request itself has over 2000 votes and still unclear what the actual status is. In this thread there seems to be some blaming towards Google, whilst Google indicates it’s upto Plex (link to Google thread). As a paying user I would simply like to know if Plex has taken this up and when I can expect it to be working.
Thanks

Voice commands? ok, but what will be with bug? case and diacritics insensitive It should be fixed before voice commands…

I’m wondering if we could get a Plex programmer to comment on which API or feature they are using from Amazon that is missing the equivalent for in Google.

This looks to be a limitation on Google’s end. There is an API but its restricted at present. @elan have Google comeback with anything on this yet?

From what I understand this might be achievable in a similar way to how Sonos works with Plex. Could the JSON feed possibly be hosted on the Plex Server then discovery happen in a similar way to Sonos? Eg. No new news to report.

+1 from me too!

Funny how the new world shrinks. I don’t get Plex on my Google Home, and I don’t get Tidal on my Google Home. And there is no Tidal for Roku, though there is Tidal for Plex, but then no Plex for Google Home. Winner of the argument? Spotify to avoid Google Play Music and in doing so, sidestepping Plex ;(

+1 from me (plexpass holder). Really a bit puzzled why this is missing.

+1 Please, we need this now that Google Music is dying. I don’t want videos and music from YouTube. I’d much rather say ‘Google play the eagles from Plex’.
