This is an absolutely essential implementation for Plex. I’m so over using my limbs, I just want to be able to lie on my back and not move and do things using my voice.

+1 Definitely a high priority for feature parity with other media playback solutions.

Like this suggestion as well. Would give us vocal commands for the interface for the most part. This also might alleviate some of the concerns with certain feature requests, since a framework can be established that allows us to use voice…perhaps directly.

Hmmmm. I have a Pi3b+ running Kodi very well with the Plex plugin (because, well, PMP on the latest Pi is still a no-show). I wonder if it could be Google Home’d via Kodi??

I think this is something that should be addressed directly by the Plex team. I hate the silence more than anything else. I understand that it doesn’t have to be a concrete answer but, “We are looking into this.” or “We are waiting on a response from Google.” Would be great!

It seems to me that it can’t be that further away. I just asked my Shield to play Black Mirror. It then asked me if I wanted to watch it on Netflix or Plex. So the Assistant already has knowledge of what is in my Plex library and can call it up on demand. For whatever reason, it just can’t be done from the Google Home itself. Having said that, Netflix won’t work like that either, yet.
In a different thread a member of the team said that this is not possible due to Google not sharing the casting SDK with third parties. This is no excuse to not try to build a solid relationship with Google and to at least attempt to get them to supply it to the team. We have seen many other companies with Google Home support and Plex should be no different. Bumping so they don’t lose sight of what really matters to Plex’s customers. We don’t need a news section…we need the ability to play our content.

How does it work, in practice, on Emby?
I noticed they advertise it on this page under the Smart Home icon: https://emby.media/premiere.html
Obviously it must be possible to do, unless Google Home is drastically lacking compared to the Alexa implementation.

@vanstinator I believe you are the person I was speaking to regarding the team not having the ability to do this due to Google not providing you with the proper tools to do so. Any update on this? We are dyin over here =(
When setting up the pixel buds on Android pie there is a screen to select the default music app, and Plex is selectable. However it will not play any music and doesn’t open when voice commands are given.

That appears to be in relation to casting… regardless, I find it hard to believe that Pandora, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, and Spotify have some special SDK that Plex can’t also use.
