Uh, yeah… you do need to follow EVERYTHING IN THAT ARTICLE. It’s literally there for EXACTLY what you would have had to do to keep your previous install intact.
I just clicked on one of my folders in plex > Manage Libraries > Refresh All Meta Data and it was able to show all the movie posters… I’m not sure if I’m going to run into any issues now… I can stream everything… I’m so confused. I just moved my old hard drive to the new computer and created a new server… Am I going to run into any issues?
You can move your media folders to a new machine and set up a new Plex Server instance then scan the folders for media. That’s the simple way, but you’ll lose all watched/unwatched data, sharing, local users, etc. and your clients will need reconfiguring to point at the new server.
If you want to retain all that: yes, you have to follow the complicated and well documented procedure.
