This is confusing so I will try to make it simple (if i can):
Aug 17th (Xfinity Bay Area on History Channel at 7am) Gracenote said Modern Marvels was playing “Superhighways.” They called it S15E04.
It recorded, however… TVDB calls this S15E04 “Tuna”! TVDB says Superhighways is S14E04!
There are certain things that Gracenote has correct ep name, that once recorded and called “S15E04” are THEN RENAMED to what TVDB calls S15E04 (i.e: in this case: Tuna)!
I know TVDB has their own rules as what is a Season and how many episodes are in a season … and I’ve named everything accordingly – because Plex says it uses TVDB. BUT what do we do when Gracenote KNOWS it is correctly named Superhighways, but the season # and episode # cause Plex itself to rename the episode name to something WRONG!
HAVING SAID ALL THIS, I disagree with the way TheTVDB names CERTAIN things, but I’ve learned to cope.
Plex should know that IF the episode name it recorded (from Gracenote) differs substantially from the TVDB episode name, to warn you and NOT just put that in your library.
THIS causes (if you use it) “replace lower quality shows” to be useless and VERY VERY untrustworthy…tho I never use that.
@elan, et al, should know this could’ve been an issue when they use 2 different providers!

Not the point - I will explain why:
When we Plex users know Gracenote is wrong on the season/episode numbers on some pretty major shows we don’t go changing TVDB which is in use by tens of thousands (if not more) of people. That would cause damage to our own libraries and theirs. Since Gracenote is only used for displaying and recording I would rather have THEM be right… my main point is why - when we know they are not right for season/episode numbers, but are right on the names of episodes - does Plex blindly use only season/episode FROM GRACENOTE to download the metadata, not caring if the theTVDB’s metadata’s episode names are WAY WAY off… There’s gotta be a way to check better. i.e.: first airdate, ep name, etc.
Gracenote does appear to be correct in this case. S44E11 says it is Eclipse Over America in the Plex Program Guide from Gracenote.

So what you are saying is because one user put the wrong episode information in TheTVDB because that is how they wanted the episodes to appear in their media server that the other tens of thousands of users as you pointed out just have to accept it. I don’t really care because I don’t normally watch or record Nova but I have modified shows I want accurate data for in the past when I find inaccuracies such as this blatantly wrong data.
