My friend is trying to watch things from my server on the Android app on his tablet but the option to stream has disappeared as well as download. When trying to stream he is only prompted to get a remote access pass but it’s my understanding that since I have a lifetime pass then he should be able to do both. Why has all functionality gone and how can this be fixed? His account predates the current changes.
I can’t find the specific post, but either yesterday or earlier today I saw someone from Plex state that it’s required for users to update to the latest version of the player apps to fix the issue. This explains the giant push to release this new app and not allow previous legacy versions.
Make sure all the parts are updated: Plex Media Server, Client Apps, and if all is good, restart the Plex Server if it hasn’t been done yet today.
It’s the latest version of the Plex app on the Google Play store so it’s impossible for things to be more up to date than they currently are.
Looks like it’s the good old “turn it off, wait for a bit, turn it back on” fix.
Ok I did that and streaming has returned to the Android app for my friend but no download button. That one is kind of important
Is your friend looking for the download icon for a show/season? If so, that feature has been mentioned as missing and will be added back at a later date from what I’ve read. As of now, only single episodes are able to be downloaded.
The button is also missing at episode level for him. It’s highly annoying
The release notes for current beta version say it is in that so likely coming later this week. I don’t have the grandfather problem myself so cannot test is beta version actually fixes it this time or not.
Is that for single episodes or for show/season downloads?
I suppose you could try toggling his download restriction settings in the Plex admin panel, save it, then toggle it back and save it.
Already tried that. No joy
Currently available is only individual episodes or FULL season.
Does the download button show up for him on movies?
Individual episodes would be fine but sadly the option isn’t there for him

Need to wait for current beta version to become live and get rolled out then it sounds like and hope this time they did fix it.

So, to fix something that doesn’t work, you’ve got to download and run something that doesn’t work? Sounds reasonable
