Perhaps but I have an Apple TV (4th Gen) so I am good to go in that respect.
I received a free Apple TV from a “DirectTV Now” promotion where I signed up for 3 months of service. Honestly I don’t use it for much since I prefer the Amazon FireTV (4K) but it is fairly solid.
That would be a bummer since I am a windows person.
I don’t know what’s more exciting - the anticipation of the Grid coming to any device near me, or of watching everyone else with the pitchforks and lynch mobs coming out when/if they have to delay again.

You make a good point!
No matter how this goes there are going to be a significant number of the user base being left out in the cold.
20 remaining days in the month of May plus 30 days of the month of June means there really isn’t much time left in Q2.
I suspect we may well see another delay but even if we see some early implementation of the Grid Guide most Plex users probably don’t have the Apple TV.
In such a case, yes its technically been released in some form or another but if ~90% of the user base can’t take advantage of it there is still a significant problem.
Still its probably better to have support drip out for each platform contiguously rather then having to collectively wait until some time in 2019.
We all have to sit down with a tub of popcorn to see where this is going. We will know in ~50 days if Q2 is a partial hit or a total miss.
Place your bets,…

I feel like I am confused about something, and I may sound dumb saying this if I am… However, aren’t there only 90 days in a quarter? How is 50 days not “much time left in Q2” if there are 90 days in Q2? It’s more than half, right?
Q2 ends on 30th June. Hopefully, Grid view will be done and dusted by then. Who makes a TV tuner that doesn’t have grid view? seriously, most if not all TVs use grid view, but nooooo… plex had to make up some other weird way of displaying channel listings. Uggh.

Small companies who were originally afraid of patent trolls who already own patents on various grid and tv display systems.
Those same small companies who found a way around such patent trolls, and immediately started planning for one.
Then those same small companies who found bigger fish to fry, or, bugs to squash, before a guide could be added.
I want a guide too.
I’m just continuously amazed that those here haven’t seen the other issues, or are ignoring the issues, people repeatedly bring up in other parts of the forum about blatant larger issues that don’t seem to be fixed/updated.
I’d be much happier if my primary clients allowed me to program the DVR first, let alone, scroll through a guide for what to record.

Just to clarify… This is a thread about wanting a Grid. You’re going to see people in this thread talking about wanting a Grid. Not to mention, this is a thread specifically about how they told us it would be available Q2, after delaying it already, and then removed the Q2 from the post (as if it had never been there).
Regardless, I completely agree with you. I need Grid to completely cut ties from the DVR boxes, as it’s too hard to find a specific show if the “Search” breaks somehow. Which, believe me, it does do! Or, another good thing to have is just to go see what’s on the CW or TLC or something. it’s weird to just not be able to browse directly to a channel.
Which then brings up another point… if all the features of the DVR worked properly, and across all platforms, it really wouldn’t be as big of a deal. I love my Plex. And I use it for all of my DVR needs. But I don’t like to watch Live TV on it. It is rare for me, but sometimes I do just like to browse to a channel and stay there and let it play.
The “grid” has many uses. For some it doesn’t matter what is showing up on the right side, they just want a quick way to get to channel 50 and play what’s on it. I know I sometimes fall into this camp when I just want to tune into CNN, MSNBC or Fox News to see what they are covering. Don’t really care to try and find what show happens to be on. I’d probably be just as happy being able to input channel numbers (popup for number entry), using up or down arrows to change channels or some other method to get to a specific channel regardless of what is currently playing.
For others the Grid is a good way to see what is on specific nights on prime time per channel. I tend to like to refer to a grid type listing like this around this time of the year. For example, now that The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon are done for the season, what is now replacing them during that time slot.
Of course a great use of a grid is simply to verify all meta-data/epg info has loaded. With the current system it can be hard to tell if there are any holes in EPG info but with a grid these holes stick out like a sore thumb.
Some people are just used to the grid and feel comfortable using this method, even if it may not be the best method.
None of this is anything new and all of these reasons have been covered before.
As others have already mentioned, once this is released people will complain about other issues in LiveTV/DVR that still keep them from using it. Once the grid is released it will be a step closer but still lacking for many people. Not being able to easily mix cable and OTA tuners. Being able to share the tuners with other programs/devices, etc. And of course a big one for many people is not being able to allow the admin to allow family members to setup recordings??? That just fails the WAF factor (unless she’s the admin!)
Don’t get me wrong, Plex has come a long way with the DVR and it’s getting better with time, but it still has a ways to go before it can be used as a household replacement for some/many people. It will probably be 80% there but that’s such a reoccurring theme with feature sets. Just like the grid, these other “issues” could be addressed probably much easier and faster as well if Plex chooses to address them. Of course having a STB replacement that 80% (whatever) of people can use to fully replace their current system says a lot as well and isn’t meant to be discounted!

Really good and insightful post. We have replaced cable with Plex OTA and Sling, and while it’s not ideal and still fails the WAF test daily, it’s getting there. I appreciate what we have currently, as it does save us close to $80/month, and DVR + comskip mostly meets our admittedly limited needs (CBS/PBS news). The grid guide will go a long way toward making it more usable as a reliable DVR platform.
no grid because people were clamoring for… (wait for it) PODCAST SUPPORT!
Sorry I had to say it.
oh and while I am here, I have to say that the ability to filter down to just movies that are in the EPG is a GEM! Every couple of days, I go to that view on Plex, sort by descending order and start picking off movies I want to watch. Then one day, they appear in my recordings! MCE had that as well (“Movies in the next 2 weeks”) and I loved it there as well.
It is frustrating when certain important features in the iOS app like being able to setup a recording are completely broken, yet they crank out a new version with Podcast support. The grid or broken features should be corrected prior to adding completely new features…

Different set of devs working on it.

That’s not how it works in the real world.
We are now in the month of May which is the last month of the 2nd quarter.
Expectations, at least for me, are tepid.
