Who makes a TV tuner that doesn’t have grid view?
Small companies who were originally afraid of patent trolls who already own patents on various grid and tv display systems.
Those same small companies who found a way around such patent trolls, and immediately started planning for one.
Then those same small companies who found bigger fish to fry, or, bugs to squash, before a guide could be added.
I want a guide too.
I’m just continuously amazed that those here haven’t seen the other issues, or are ignoring the issues, people repeatedly bring up in other parts of the forum about blatant larger issues that don’t seem to be fixed/updated.
I’d be much happier if my primary clients allowed me to program the DVR first, let alone, scroll through a guide for what to record.
I’d be much happier if the current setup was actually useful. Yesterday I learned about a special program on a local channel airing at 7 PM. I knew the name and the station but could not find it in the ‘guide’. I searched and I looked at every subsection by channel and it was not there. I wasted 20 minutes and got nowhere.
I switched over to Emby, pulled up the guide, scrolled to the right and pressed record. That took all of 45 seconds.
Please tell me how this ‘non guide’ is so superior.
@dewd - I’m not saying a guide won’t be useful or that I don’t want one, but, did your search for the title of the show not return results? I just tested by searching for Paid Programming, and found 13 episodes in less than 10 seconds.
(off topic - paid programming…i knew I’d find a few, but, wow…and some CableTV execs still wonder why the standard scheduled tv dinosaur is dying.)
I know. I didn’t know what else to search for, so used Paid programming.
Dewd seems to know the name of the program - it’s why I’m asking why it took 20 minutes.
Even using arrow pad in search on my roku wouldn’t take that long.
(But I wouldn’t be able to schedule a recording, hence why I’d be happier to get recording scheduling working before a guide was added, but, as someone tried to be snippy earlier, this thread is about Grid update, and the fact so many are upset that the programmers didn’t reach a public goal, and now people are crying because the goal comment keeps getting changed/pushed0
There are different use cases. I’ve find some oddities and inconsistency in the Plex guide from time to time. For example , doing a search for a series or movie that should be in the guide yielding a null return. Update the guide, still nothing. Do a search on one of the actors in the movie or series and “bingo”, direct hit,…sometimes.
The reality is that it is beyond frustrating when you know everything about the movie or series you want to record or watch but simply cannot go directly to it or at all.
Generally speaking, I typically know day, time , channel and often even repeat showing times of the shows I want to watch / record.
If you are going in blind (don’t know what you want to watch and when ect.) then its fine possibly even when Plex hides guide info from you (what you don’t know won’t hurt you). However, if you already have the info and Plex is getting in the way,…that is a problem.
The traditional grid guide as an option fixes all of this,…

Because I searched for the frickin’ program and it was not listed. How the hell do I record something that isn’t there? Maybe it is a data issue? Maybe it was called something else? Either way, the grid fixed my problem in a few seconds. Or maybe I’m just not a big enough of a geek to understand this stuff…
Just give my a grid so me and the rest of my family can ditch the expensive cable boxes…
There really is no question about the need of it. Presumably even the Plex developers will tell you there is a legitimate need for a grid view guide.
The only real question is when?
I for one am not overly optimistic that we will see any progress on this before the end of June. it’s June 5th now and as time goes by there typically is very little to no indication one way or the other.
I may suggest at this point that another good faith update from a Plex rep is in order.
very soon Sorry, I’m not able to give you an exact date.
That certainly is encouraging and I am a little bit more optimistic now.
Still, if the previous indication that the grid view update will be available first on the Plex for AppleTV client holds true, then this sign of movement is almost purely academic for a lot of users.

This has to be the biggest/most requested feature I can remember in a long, long time!
It certainly is!

No one has stumbled across it yet? “Channels” (grid view) launches today for all Plex Pass DVR users (and their home users) on web! Plex Web 3.53+ is required. To dive in, head on over to Plex Web and click on “Guide” in the left-hand menu. “Channels” is now the default display in the Guide, with other views (including “Discover”) available in the drop-down.

Oh what a way to brighten a Monday morning! Thanks so much! You’re the best!
