I agree this is one of the features that keeps me sticking with XBMC, I would love if we could have this on Plex, I would be completely on board with plex if this was an option
This is a great idea. I don't think that this feature should key off of the collections field, because that field is already used for custom user-defined categories. Instead, it should be a "series" field for official movie series.
For example, if you look up a Harry Potter movie in Freebase, you will see that it is part of the "Harry Potter film series".
+1. totally agree.Â
Agree to this as well.
Make a "series" field in metadata where you can name the series what you want, and this name shows up at the movie grid as a "folder-icon" or something. And a litte checkbox behind where you can choose if you want the film to also show individually with the regular movies or not.
+1. Maybe a dev could answer us about that feature?
please for the love of god introduce this
A heartfelt +1 on this!
I've even got an own library with collections, so having to browse them as a whole isn't what "Collections" are supposed to be.
The feature to add movies to a collection on plex and then filter them in PlexHT is not very elegant.
I'd really like to be able to have an overview over the collections and then delve deeper into one as I choose one.
+1 Please do this.
Would be much more organized.
+1 I agree this feature would be amazing.
Not to be bitchy, as this is a wonderful platform and there is so much to love about it, but this has been a rather highly supported request for two years now. Is there any plan to implament? For movies with many sequals (sci-fi and horror series with oven almost a dozen installments come to mind) or collections (like pixar short films collections) this really is a problem as currently it REALLY clutters the screen. We just need to see collections grouped under one poseter like with TV series, along with non-collection movies at top level. What seems like a small change would make a huge difference and allow for lots of customization (for instance, people could create a collection for their kid's movies, which would keep elmo spam from cluttering up the good stuff).
Just adding something.
I fully agree that this would be a great way to streamline the Move section.
I was just creating a collection for all the Marvel universe movies & shorts, and putting them in a viewing order based on the Sort field. And on a whim thought "what if I try to sync the whole thing like this to my Nexus7?"
And what do you know, you are able to sync and entire "collection" as if it was a TV series, with the check boxes for "unread" and other things.
This would indicate that the hooks are there in some form for the collections to be treated similar to series's and thus we are possibly one step closer to having them collapsed inside the Movie view.
How can it be that nobody responsible for Plex is answering in this thread about a function many obvious want??
Just throwing my vote in here for this feature!

Welcome to the Plex forums! Where obvious features are mostly ignored (In this case, since March 2011). Should be the tagline of this forum.
All jokes aside, I really wish that feature requests like this wouldn't be ignored for so long. It's practically soul crushing to find such an amazing software that lacks such obvious features like this and the broken record that is PARENTAL CONTROLS. I expected user management to be on a local level (something like XBMC), not having to sign up every family member to plexpass. I literally weep everytime I see a new blog update and mostly see features I care little about. It's really heartbreaking to see these ancient forum posts that continually get ignored or get a half-hearted response. I really want to love Plex, and I'll continue to use it personally but only because it's the best option out there. I don't even care that these requested features become just premium features, just that they're implemented. I want to support the devs by buying a premium pass but I feel like I won't get any reassurance that the developers would at least listen to these requests. I just keep hoping...
The Plex developers have a big vision. They implemented major features this part year like Plex Sync and Cloud Sync, which have a real wow factor and certainly involved a major development effort. And that's great, I'm impressed by what they're doing.
However, I wish they would focus a little more on core features which many regular users have been asking about. I am thinking of enhancements to media organization and presentation. For example, grouping movies together, supporting movie special features, better support for multiple cuts of the same movie, supporting custom section icons officially, adding subsections, and improving subtitle support.
These are the basic things which would improve my day-to-day experience. And honestly, many of them seem like they would only require a modest effort.
Looks like we're never going to get this, which really sucks.
Edit:
Found some feature requests relating to this, **now everyone needs to vote for them!!!** Lets make this happen!

- 1this is a must
This is a great idea. Â I just wish that the developers would stop spreading themselves too thin and concentrate on core features like these.
+1, astounded this isn't already a built in feature.
Developers - are you listening?! There are so many threads pages long about really basic features like this where all your users (your revenue) are exhorting you to stop developing huge mind blowing features (which are awesome) and cement the foundation (which is more important and precedes awesome) with the obvious must have's that original media server software would have!
Customer insight! Listen!
Just introduced/showed Plex to one of my friends and this is what they are saying as well. "You should group your movies together. Why aren't your movies together like your TV shows?"
