I tag movies using Subler to provide more detailed contextual information by adding them to the Grouping field. I understand that it’s meant for classical music, but the tags aren’t genres so I don’t want to confuse things. For example, I might put in the Grouping field “Vampires, Halloween” for Interview With The Vampire. I then have smart playlists for each of those which makes it easier to find other movies with those tags. Pulling those into a field in Plex simply called Tags would provide that same flexibility to collect all Halloween movies when deciding what to watch on All Hallows Eve.
I know it’s a lot to ask when most people don’t go the same extent as I do, but just adding the Tags field to Plex for people to use manually would probably benefit more than just me. It would be nice though if the metadata field of Groupings that’s already in all my movies could be amended to that Tags field.
