Is there a limit on the download speed for guests on a free account?
Thanks
I guess you could call it a limitā¦
As only the server admin account has the ability to download anything.
Hi,
Sorry, I meant the data download speed, for streaming. My guests appear to be getting a limit of 1mbs. I was wondering whether this is Plex established or may be explained by some other feature of the guestās internet access.
If your user is seeing a limit, it means they are connected via Plex Relay. You can find more info here, https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/216766168-Accessing-a-Server-through-Relay.
I though Plex Relay was limited to 2Mbps, not 1Mbps. (At least this is what I see when I have it happening to me.)
The other thing that could be happening is, you set a remote streaming limit of 1Mbps in the Web App -> Settings -> Server -> Remote Access -> āLimit remote stream bitrateā If this is set to 1Mbps, then thatās all your remote user is going to get.
Thanks to both of you. I think it was the fact that I did not have port forwarding set up and was therefore giving everyone indirect access. The streaming is set to āno limitā so this should be OK and I have 20mbs upload bandwidth so this too should be enough. Now this is sorted out I am hopeful that the problem should go away. Iāll get some of the guests to try it.

from the docs : https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/216766168-Accessing-a-Server-through-Relay
Free users are limited to 1 Mbps maximum for streams
Plex Pass subscribers are limited to 2 Mbps maximum for streams
Many thanks. Solved
How can you tell if a user is accessing my PMS via a relay or not?
There are unfortunately no clues in the user interface (except the Bitrate not exceeding 1 [2] Mbps).
AFAIK there is only a hint in the Plex Media Server.log (with ādebugā enabled), at around the time when the stream is started.
But itād be actually a good thing if there were a clue about relayed playback in the Dashboard.
Thank you for the response. Are there any remote stream limits for Plex free account users? Trying to make sure that couldnāt be part of the issues some of my Remote Streams users are seeing.
If your server is accessible directly, the only limits are defined by your serverās technical limits (storage system throughput and cpu power) and the capacity of your internet connection.
If your remote users are forced to the relay connection (because your server is not accessible directly), then free users have a bandwidth limit of 1Mbps.
