Guidance on a list view for home video and other personal files

Hi,

I have 3 terrabites of home video files that have been stored on my hard drive and sorted via their filename. The current way to display media content both in the Plex Media Client and also the Plex Connect ATV uses media tiles. Although these can be sorted by date etc, navigating to the correct file is pretty difficult. I was wondering if I am missing something in terms of a setup that will allow me to have a display by filesystem folder/filename option for my home video content.

Is there a plugin/channel that will allow this to be supported?

Any suggestions on how to make navigation of this content (where there is no online metadata available) easier?

Thanks

Paul

This has come up a few times...there are essentially two options, listed here: https://plexapp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/sections/200068083-Naming-and-Organizing-Personal-Media

You probably want to use the second method where you set it as a personal folder, but use the TV template, and name your clips like TV Shows...i.e.:

/Home Movies

/Christmas

/2012

Christmas - s2012e01 - Getting Ready.m4v

Christmas - s2012e02 - Stuffing the Stockings.m4v

Christmas - s2012e03 - Christmas Morning.m4v

/2013

Christmas - s2013e01 - Kids Unwrapping Presents.m4v

If you use the above method, when you browse to this library, by default you'll have different "Shows" (i.e. "Christmas" or "Graduation"), then inside each "Show" the clips are separated by "Season" (i.e. years).

Thanks I'll give it a try. When I load the plex library in trailers on the ATV it presents the "shelves" of content (On Deck, Recently Added etc) with Image "Tiles" for each item and text underneath.

Is there a way to configure PlexConnect to display as a list for each shelf in order to allow the full name of each media item to be displayed and selected?

Tab "All Movies" in combination with setting "MovieView=List"?

Also, under "More..." you should see a "By Folder", too.
