Hello,
I am fairly new to Plex and Handbrake, Im just wondering if someone would be kind enough to assist me. Ive figured out the Video settings for Handbrake but the Audio settings are a real pain, As im ripping Blu rays im taking the DTS-HD Master Audio as well as the Dolby Digital 5.1 but the problem is when I come to handbrake What would be the best Audio settings? Our living room has a 3.1 Sound bar but we have an entertainment room(which does support DTS-HD Master Audio) and we watch Plex on our TV in our bedroom, What would be the best Audio settings?(Im also using .MKV):
Track 1:
DTS-HD Master Audio > AAC(avcodec) 160 Bitrate Dolby Pro Logic II
Track 2:
DTS-HD Master Audio > DTS-HD passthrough
or
Track 1:
AC3 > AC3 Passthrough
Track 2:
DTS-HD Master Audio > DTS-HD passthrough
Ive been reading online that some people swear by AC3 and some by ACC.
If someone could help, That would be amazing.
Thank You,
I keep just the high def audio track in all my encodes. It transcodes and plays just fine on my rpi2 that is connected directly to a TV. But my server is also stout enough that it can handle multiple transcodes if needed.
Basically it’s up to you to decide what you want. If you want slightly smaller files stick to one audio track. If you want maximum compatibility with clients include multiple tracks.
I always keep the DTS-MA or True HD and the core version. My server will handle the rest, but I would suggest, given your set up, it might make sense to put a stereo track in there too.
Are you Windows or Mac?
A 3.1 system sounds like it will receive and process 5.1 or better and just drop the rear tracks. I am curious if you see a transcode when playing to that system.
Thank You TurboJailer and hatflix for your quick reply, Does transcoding Audio use much CPU? I know if it has to transcode the video it will.
My system is Windows 8.1. Thats what I was wondering, If it would cause any problems with it being 3.1. I give it a try later today.
So hatflix, Would you recommend Track 1 being AAC and Track 2 being DTS HD passthrough?
