Apparently it does.
Apparently It seems that plex av1 hardware decode works in Linux but not on windows because there are lots of people on Reddit that made it work using Ubuntu.
Correct, we do not currently support av1 hw decoding on windows with intel devices. It is something i will be adding reletively soon-ish. Would you be willing to help test when i do?
Of course!
Should I DM you for the test?
I’ll either DM you the build or point you to the forum preview (if i go that route) when its ready. I am in the middle of a large update to the transcoder which is a prerequisite for this work as well as a handful of other improvements.
Ok thanks.
This sounds exciting!
Thanks for all the awesome transcoder work you’ve been knocking out!
Adding some more info based on my testing with a Win11 machine using a Core Ultra 5 135U.
OS: Windows 11 10.0.26100
Intel Graphics Driver: 4/1/2025 32.0.101.6732
Plex Version: 1.41.6.9541 (build linked earlier in this thread)
File: 4K 55mbps HEVC 10bit main 10 HDR10
HDR Tone Mapping: Enabled
Hardware Acceleration: Enabled
Hardware Decoding: Enabled
HEVC Encoding: Always
Hardware Device: Auto, Intel(R) Graphics (Tried both, same result)
Video decodes in software/cpu and encoded output goes through HW/iGPU to 1080p H264 using the 20mbps quality selection.
Not decoding in HW as expected, and not outputting to HEVC as expected.
I’ve confirmed this same file does properly use HW decode and HEVC encode on my N100 machine using the current live PMS version 1.41.5.9522 running Ubuntu 24.04.
EDIT: Added Intel Graphics Driver version.
Automatic HW encoding for 4K movies no longer works for me either. I have a Synology DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 3 and the latest Plex beta version 1.41.6.9606. An Nvidia T400 GPU is installed on the Synology.
When I start a 4K movie and immediately set the quality to “Play in original quality”, the movie starts. Then I can also downgrade to 1080p and everything runs as usual. But if i switch to automatic quality, movie stops with an error message.
Any updates on this?
It’s been 3 months. Is this still coming to windows?
Thanks.
