Hardware Compatibility for FreeBSD (TrueNAS 12)

Note that this is not proper “server-linux” as the tag required, but “server-unix”.

I have an i9-10900k, running TrueNAS 12.0-U2 (FreeBSD 12.2-RELEASE-p3). All the forum posts I’ve seen about Plex hardware transcoding on FreeBSD refer to 11, which I’m not running. I saw some discussion of incompatibility, but nothing really solid.

Is there any insight as to the Comet Lake/10th gen CPUs, and hardware transcoding? Does it just not work on this version of FreeBSD, or am I totally missing something here? Fortunately, my CPU is powerful enough to do a 4k transcode without GPU, but it’s much slower than GPU transcoding that I had while on Linux…

Cant comment on that particular processor but HWT works fine for me in 12.1 jail, havent updated my jail to 12.2 yet.

What CPU do you have?

i5-10210U

FreeBSD 12.2 - hardware transcoding works on host, OS crashes if running in jail
FreeBSD 13.0 - works in jail without issues

I’m running FreeBSD, not TrueNAS.
