I just upgraded to a 8700k so I can get some more concurrent streams with hardware transcoding.
It appears any tracks with DTS-MA or TrueHD tracks won’t hardware transcode - this is for both 4k hevc files and just x264 1080p files. If I select the AC3 track (if present) in the file then it switches over to hw transcode.
I can’t find anyone else talking about this - is this a known issue or not?
Can anyone with p2000 confirm if that will hardware transcode files with DTS-MA or TrueHD audio?
Hardware transcoding only does video. Audio is always done on the computer. Can you provide more details on what you see and provide logs from PMS after recreating the problem?
Yes I realise hw transcode is for video, in this instance it’s shifting all of the processing to cpu.
I was running the latest beta release, and have since rolled back to 1.14.1.5488.
Now I get the following issues:
4k hevc will transcode fine with dts-ma or dts-x.
4k hevc moves to software transcoding with a truehd track
4k hevc goes back to hardware when the ac3 stream is selected
1080p truehd tracks transcode on hardware
All other 1080p files transcode fine on hardware.
Here’s the server log for a title, in the first instance direct play is on.
In the second instance the ac3 track is selcted and hardware transcoding is active (TPU: hardware transcoding: using hardware decode accelerator dxva2)
The last entry is switching the audio track to truehd, when it drops back to software (TPU: hardware transcoding: enabled, but no hardware decode accelerator found) log.txt (686.0 KB)
I realise until there is a tone mapping solution it’s a relatively moot point, but hopefully that will be resolved soon in which case it will be a big issue.
