I have a Ubuntu 18.04 box that I had been using with plex just fine until today when I put in an Nvidia GTX 960 and the Nvidia 430 proprietary drivers.
It still works, but I have been unable to get HW transcoding to work using this guide:

when I test with the latest player and force transcoding it just says “240p (or whatever) (transcode)” without the “hw” part.
