Hardware transcoding device defaults to auto on reboot

Server Version#: 1.41.5.9522
Player Version#: -

Hi all,

Need help, I can’t get Plex to keep my GPU as the hardware transcoding device, it keeps reverting to auto on reboot which is super annoying.

Seems to be a couple with this issue without resolution yet.
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

I just checked mine and I’m having the same issue. Was fine before updating to 1.41.5.9522.

I just did a test and before rebooting my GPU was showing Intel UHD Graphics. After rebooting it shows Auto.

Running on an N100, Win 11, 23H2.

I too am having this same issue recently. I don’t know if it was since the last update as I only noticed it a couple days ago but I suspect it was. I will set it to my GPU intel arc b580, and on restart it reverts to auto. I tested restarting the server and that stays as my gpu, its only when my PC restarts which I have it set to do nightly at 4am. Super annoying.

Yep it happens to me too, running the latest Windows 11, latest Plex, and latest intel drivers. I want it to use my Arc A380 as a dedicated GPU transcoder but everytime I reboot my HTPC it simply resets back to auto. It’s incredibly frustrating.

I’m having the same issue with mine as well running latest PMS and Win11 with a Nvidia Quadro for my GPU.

Please provide the exact server version. 1.41.8 had a fix for this issue.

I’ve got the current version allowed on Plex’s website, unless I download the Beta version 1.41.8

The fix is in 1.41.8. You can wait for it to go public or load the beta, up to you.

I was just trying to point it that saying “latest” isn’t useful when diagnosing an issue.

Thanks!

Now another issue! Went travelling and brought my trusty chromecast. No options to transcode, super frustrating! Buffering every couple mins and major annoyed kids! What the hell is up with Plex lately!

Chromecast follows the parameters of the device that initiates it, so if you need to change quality, you need to change the settings in the app on the device.

I’ll give the beta version a try, appreciate the help.
