Hardware Transcoding Gone?

Please help? I have PMS running on a Synology DS918+ and it has been working perfectly. I have a plex pass and was using hardware transcoding.

DSM has just been upgraded to DSM 6.2-23739 and I performed the manual upgrade of PMS to 1.13.2.5154 and the hardware transcoding option under Settings->Server->Transcoder is no longer there. This is severely limiting my ability to watch some of my high res content.

I have:

  1. Signed out of plex and back in again
  2. Restarted the plex service on the NAS
  3. Rebooted the NAS and signed back in to Plex and still nothing.

Any advice, tips or tricks welcome.

I have a 918+ with DSM 6.2 and the the same Plex-Server version. I see the hw transcoding option. Do you have extended options, o whatever its called in english, enabled?

Is Plex Pass showing in your account? I would reinstall PMS, maybe something went wrong when you updated.

Simpy install the most recent Plex package again over your current installation. Hardware transcoding almost always gets broken with a DSM update. The package scripts will fix this.

I have an update coming in the next PMS release. The updated installer will repair Hardware Transcoding by simply restarting PMS. (I figured out how to do it and not get DSM upset)

That’s good news @ChuckPa. Is @Haggudaz’s suggestion viable in the meantime while we eagerly await your next PMS release? So download the last .spk and do a manual install again?

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know from experience that this will still preserve the libraries, etc?

Because of how DSM works, we can’t downgrade without uninstalling.
For this reason, I have written the installer to always preserve your Plex share.

As a extra tidbit of info, the installer is sufficiently intelligent to find which Volume you have the Plex share on or wish to install on (multiple volume configurations)

Download the SPK you need/want; uninstall the installed; install the desired, Enjoy :slight_smile:

I can’t help with Windows server issues.

Thanks @ChuckPa. This worked. I uninstalled version 1.13.2.5154 from the Synology, downloaded the same version .spk (1.13.2.5154) and performed the manual install. Everything I had (config, libraries, etc) was preserved (particularly the “On Deck”) and now hardware transcoding is available again.
