Hardware transcoding disabled by Synology NAS Firmware update (DS918+)

Just a quick heads up - I recently upgraded the firmware of my Synology NAS from 6.1.4 to 6.1.5.

After doing so - Hardware transcoding no longer functioned. The NAS’s CPU isn’t exactly over specced, so this is a pretty big deal. Eventually I found reinstalling the Plex Server (1.11.1.4760) corrected the issue, but dealing with upgrades to the NAS firmware like this more gracefully would be better (guessing a permissions issue?)

Thanks

It depends how Synology is managing permissions after an DSM update. When you deinstall and reinstall the PMS, your library will remain untouched, it should work again.

Yup - that’s what I figured. The post was more to suggest to the product manager that as an improvement, the server should be able to spot it can no longer access hardware transcoding, and at least provide a warning to this effect, rather than pretending all is well, chewing up all the CPU and failing to keep up. From what I gather the permissions get trampled each time Synology send an update out. As many NAS’s are set to auto update their firmware - having Plex randomly fail without warning every month isn’t great behaviour.
