Harmony remote question

I posted this in the general questions, but meant to post in plexpass.

I have read as much as I could find, spent hours trying different configurations and I cannot get it to do what I would like.

I would like the remote to do basic functions along with changing the aspect ratio. If I map the buttons I can get most of the functions to work.

What I have is the harmony ultimate, but not with the hub. I am using my old PC remote control (generic). I tried to do what some people talked about and that was use eventghost to get the commands that you want. The problem is that eventghost wants you to update the pc remote controller driver, when I do that it won’t even accept the commands that I manually linked with both of the remotes.

Anyone with knowledge of this know what I can do? Right now I would be ok with just being able to change aspect ration (z) on the keyboard.

Would you mind if I move this to the General (non-plex pass) forum? It will give you greater exposure to others who may have already done similar work

What are you controlling with the Harmony?

It is actually already there…

Either openPht or pmp… either one that will work. On windows 8.1

Sorry, I meant specific hardware that you’re using.

I.e. I’m using an Intel NUC D54250WYK, so I add it as ‘Intel’ as the Manufacture and ‘D54250WYK’ as the Device Model Number. Now, that didn’t work as well as I wanted, so I also added added another device as ‘Microsoft’ for the manufacture and ‘Windows Media Center SE’ which gave me a lot more commands that I could add to my remote.

Oh ok sorry! It was an old pc remote control, some generic brand that I got off amazon years ago lol.

When I add the Microsoft one it doesn’t do angthing :frowning:

For my pc it’s

The PC doesn’t have IR, so that’s out. I don’t have one of those ATian’s, but I couldn’t get it to add in MyHarmony, so it might just not be supported. I do have two of these http://a.co/j288xxq little guys and they work great when I add it as Ortek VRC-1100 with my Raspberry Pi’s. I had it on my NUC a few times with Windows 10 and it works, so theoretically it should work with your 8.1 PC.

After that it’ll be setting up PMP with a keymap to use a specific key (since z isn’t an option) to change the aspect ratio.

Ok… that’s what I need. That’s the problem. How would I change openpht or pmps keymap? I was not aware you could do that.

Using the old remote I was able to get the basic commands, just nothing special. It would be nice if I could somehow get pmp to open when I start the activity. I tried to use commmands with eventghost to get it to do that, but it made me use the eventghost driver, then I couldn’t even get the old remote to work anymore, so I had to delete that driver.

Thanks for your help, it’s much appreciated.

I’ve never used OpenPHT except to just test it out so I can’t speak to that, but there’s a nice FAQ for PMP: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/216459997-Create-your-own-inputmap

Oh and as for PMP opening on the activity, do you mean on Windows boot? If so, you just need to add a shortcut to PMP it to your Startup folder (C:\Users\USERNAMEGOESHERE\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup).

Well, I also use the computer as a PC sometimes. I forget to open up pmp when I’m done, so it would be nice to not have to get the mouse or keyboard when I do that.

Thanks for all your help!! That’s what I needed

Still trying to figure it out. Right now the log is not giving me an inputmap…it says Xbox controller which is not even hooked up

With mine I can add a button to do Win+#, and in my case PMP is the third link on the Taskbar so I have it set to Win+3 and can just press that button to start up PMP.

Thank you for the bold. I could not figure out for the life of me how to add that remote after I got a Harmony 650 and couldn’t figure out the brand. I was planning on giving the remote to my dad to use for his setup but wanted to test it out first to make sure it was simple enough (my setup is more complex then his). Because I couldn’t figure out how to program my WMC remote I ended up giving it to my dad almost immediately (once I set it up for his system). I just tried now and the info you provided allowed me to actually get it working, so now I can go and get another remote for me and be down to 1 remote.

So thank you for posting that, it helped me out!
