I have lots of compilation albums with various artists and several cd’s.
Under the latest server version all these albums are now listed as by the artists “The Mammas and The Papas” Also each cd is listed as a seperate album.
Everything has been working fine with these albums in Plex for a long time.
I don’t even like The Mammas and The Papa !!
I know and mine it keeps going to Various Artists. Even for some known artist…
I had this problem too. In one of the recent releases 1.18.0.1846, Plex changed the way the Metadata was matched, see this from the Changelog:
“(Library) Brand new music scanner and metadata system! More details at New Metadata System”
I had multiple albums under a single folder per artist - and one folder for Various Artists. All various artists got credited to one artist, and when I transferred in multiple albums for a single artists all the tracks got mixed up completely.
You now need to have each and every single album in a separate folder, or all kinds of crazy things happen. I have 5,500 albums, so it’s taken me days to fix.
Once you do this, all goes back to normal on a re-scan of the library.
I did try to go back to a previous version of the server, but this just broke the metadata agents completely and you couldn’t edit them to fix it.
