since the TV in my bedroom is lacking USB Ports and it looks like the client keeps my Server awake i am currently looking for an alternative to shutting the Raspberry down when i am finished and then replug it when it is used.
Furthermore i would like to do it with a remote (i would prefer the remote from the Toshiba TV).
Has anyone tried the RemotePi Board already? Or knows an alternative?
22,50€ + Raspberry + WiFi Stick + Powersupply + Case is almost the same as buying a Roku Box or similar.
edit: well i ordered it, it takes 7-14 days to ship. So now i have to play the waiting game..
Yes and it does not block a USB port like the flirc. And since the ir receiver is connected to the gpio pins of the pi it should be possible to program almost any remote.
The best part however is that you are able to turn off/on the pi with a remote.

I have a Remote Pi board, works great with Rasplex, took minutes to install and set up using an old spare remote, although now incorporated into my Philips Pronto (similar to Logitech Harmony). Fits inside most standard cases, just drill a couple of holes.
I leave all my Pi's running 24/7 and had no problems.
Regarding the RemotePi, if you are using the Rii then the RemotePi only gives you a power button, why bother with the expense when you can leave it on 24/7. Save your money. I use the RemotePi as intended with a Phillips Pronto, works great and only took 15 minutes to set up with all the remote commands I need.
