Has there been a forum update with reactions not including negative responses

Today it has come to my attention Dislikes and WTF have been removed from Discussion Reactions

Yeah, they seem to be gone, at least for now. It “could” be an accident.

Maybe Plex is trying to be more politically correct and to facilitate the warm and fuzzy.

The “reaction” buttons were already nearly meaningless and removing the ability to “dislike” makes them even more so.

I guess Plex had some complaints from some wimps that “disliked” the “dislikes” they were receiving so Plex decided to censor “dislikes” in advance.

However both likes and dislikes and all the other reaction buttons are really just manifestations of laziness, if someone likes or does not like a post they should have the guts to say so and take the time to say why. I think ALL the reaction buttons should go the way of the Dodo but that is very unlikely as people seem to enjoy them and even treat them like they have real meaning.

Hmm guessing this will get removet too :stuck_out_tongue:

So there no official statement on the subject. For me i really don’t mind either way.

Like in most cases if you are expecting official answer from Plex it might take a while.
Don’t understand the decision behind this. You can be positive but not negative. Not even WTF?

These ‘reactions’ were removed intentionally.
Very often, the negative reaction were simply used by people who disliked the content of a post, not the form of a post. i.e. “shoot the messenger” style.

If you read the forums on a touch screen it also frequently happened, that you WTF’d or disliked a post simply by fat-fingering.

So it was decided to remove them. It was concluded they were not adding any value except spreading bad mojo.

WTF

Doesn’t both those arguments apply to the like and lol etc?

Ooops, I just fat fingered the like button :stuck_out_tongue:

So then the others should be removed as well as they add no value either. The current choices are the forum equivalent of “cotton candy.” Sweet but with no real substance. I believe it would be just as bad to “like” a post with a fat finger as it would be to “dislike” it.

Remove all the stupid buttons or make it clear that the decision was really due to a lack of courage and the desire to pre-censor reaction. It is Plex’s choice but either they need to remove all reaction buttons or they should allow all of them. Sanitizing before the fact is just gutless and shows that Plex will not stand up to a few vocal complainers. A like button without a dislike is even more meaningless than it was before the arbitrary change.

You must be referring to dislikes under release announcements post where indeed quite often messenger has been shot.
Now we going to fat finger likes and lols I guess. Stick is gone all you got is carrot now.
I’ve earned fair share of dislikes going against blind apple fanboys but I will definitely miss negative reactions.

How else would the community get that ‘feel-good’ feeling when voting on a featured request until the eventual and inevitable ‘I got ignored’ feeling kicks in often creating a general WTF aura of discontent.

Somebody around here should be providing candy of some sort. A Button press, or the removal of same, is often just about as far as development is willing to go. I expect more WTFs on release announcements until those too are cleaved out of the forums for misuse.

Actually the WTF no longer exists either. Maybe the LOL would work?

Castrating the boards around the internet is becoming common. I have noticed that you can no longer thumb down comments on a lot of news sites like Yahoo News.

And a couple of quote that kind of apply:
“When people talk about political correctness, the only element of any value is good manners.” Paul Johnson
“Political Correctness doesn’t change us, it shuts us up.” Glenn Beck

Plex wants all of us to be politically correct so they remove some of the “make mean” abilities and only provide ways to “Make nice.”

Plex should have kept the dislikes button. Folks are left with using the Flag/abuse button if they don’t like a post.

I noticed that and removed it from my post, but I just put it back in (easier than putting a WTF back into a Vanilla forum I would imagine). I wonder how much of this day we can waste re-editing our edits? Psssst. @Elijah_Baley - stop editing…

I’m not sure what, if any, effect that has - The Plex Forum Troll has 79 of them and he and the Chief of Plex User Police gave me 50. If you’re gonna clean up the place be sure to check under the rim for blow-back stains.

That’s funny… fat-fingering! :)) That should be a new verb entry in the world’s English dictionaries.

In my humble opinion, a dislike and WTF button has value in forum communication.

Hey, but in related news, complaints are waaaaaaay down. :))

This place has really gone downhill.

I suppose we can still use the like button for feature request counts.

Alright, so users are supposed to voice their disagreement with the content of a post with posts in opposition then?

Can do.

This decision is hilariously childish and wrong in the face of a user base that distrusts Plex more and more and is merely captive by way of all current other solutions being worse.

Your explanation also ignores a factual reality: For posts where the form of a post is wrong, the “Flag” feature should be used, since form being wrong is short for “the poster is insulting someone”. Giving feedback on content is exactly what like/dislike/wtf/lol are for.
