I’ve been using plexconnect with my Apple TV and Synology for months and this problem started recently :
Sometimes when I watch a movie, it will pause in the middle (showing the loading wheel). If I press the button to go back, I have access to my Plex catalog but can’t watch any movie (loading wheel). The Internet connection is lost. Only way to solve the issue is to reboot the Apple TV through the Settings.
Have you any idea where this might come from? I’m using a smartdns, could this be a reason?

Are you using (or forcing) Direct Play ? If yes, please update PlexConnect to the latest version, according to your description you can be suffering from the “perpetual buffering” problem that was solved by end of Dec-2015.
I’m using Plexconnect 0.5-12. Is there a newer version?
I am considering that the problem might come from my smartdns. I am having connectivity issues on my iPad too and they seem to be solved when I remove the smartdns address…
Synology installer 0.5-12 is the latest one and should have the “buffering fix” included. There are newer PlexConnect versions containing minor modifs, but so far @bwynants did not update the Synology installer.
It’s very hard to diagnose situations like these. If you provide enough info so that PlexConnect developers can reproduce the problem maybe they can solve it, otherwise you may end-up solving the problem by yourself (similar to what I had to do with “Perpetual buffering”).
Unfortunately, problem is still there. Playing of some videos stops randomly (buffering). Have to reboot every time 
Not sure if this would help but if your aTV2 was jailbroken you could install PlexConnect directly upon it:
The ATV2 is limited to 720p (according to H.264 level 3.1). If you try to Direct Play films with higher resolutions, or you have the transcoder setup for higher resolutions, you may trigger a buffering problem.
If you use transcoding there is a parameter in PlexConnect to specify the target resolution and bitrate, pls use it.
