Server Version#: 1.112.0.359-0d79a49f (this is the version from my Plex local program actually… according to server admin server is 4.156.0)
Player Version#: 4.12.4
Hello,
No logs as of the moment. Also, I am under the impression the Plex server is decently out of date… I am not admin, I know they tend to refrain from updating unless they think it will fix something that is broken. So if updating is the likely solve, let me know.
Few issues I’ve had getting downloads on PlexAmp:
-
Having it refresh downloads on opening the app, having it complete unfinished downloads on opening the app, or forcing a “Refresh All” through the three dots on the download screen, doesn’t actually do anything
-
Let’s say I have 1000 downloads queued. At a certain point, it will just abort the rest of the downloads… and due to issue #1, I have to long press each album in the download section, and do an individual refresh of every album, to get it to re-queue to download.
-
Sometimes, PlexAmp will spam create multiple entries for the same album in the downloads section… the only way I have found to fix this, is to long press one of the albums, and select “Delete”. Now this doesn’t actually delete the album, I have to close and reopen the app, then all entries for the album is gone, and I have to re-download the album.

I think this issue might’ve been related to having all these issues while download hundreds of artists to my 1tb microSD… I would hit “Play All” in the downloads section, after about 30 sec it would bring up the player like it was ready to play, then the app would just crash. Now I am thinking due to all these issues, maybe some downloads were actually incomplete/corrupt and that caused the player to just crash? I am about halfway through trying again with all downloads (formatted microSD to start over) and I just hit Play All and it worked, so not sure what exactly the problem was…
I can get a log uploaded if needed, or I can try pestering the server admin into updating Plex, if that being out of date might be causing issues with PlexAmp download behavior. I don’t see a way to see how big logs are, I know I had once uploaded a massive log to Symfonium… I didn’t realize it was possible to literally log everything for a long period of time. So if there’s a way to make a log … like clear it, then try and trigger the problematic behavior so only that is logged, and then upload that. Feel free to inform me.
EDIT: Ah k, well admin hasn’t updated in a long time because it (in some way) won’t let him update. So he would have to back up metadata and stuff and reinstall with the latest version, is the thought process.
EDIT2: He’s going to look into backing stuff up and reinstalling shortly… will report back if I have any issues after that.
EDIT3: Okay, server is updated (it apparently went fine this time - not sure what was wrong before). So far I have not had downloads de-queue themselves, I will update if that happens. However, performance with the app is pretty poor, at least when downloading - I don’t have this issue with Symfonium, so I don’t think it’s my phone. It will take a few seconds for a selection to be registered, I can’t really play music while downloads are going (doesn’t matter if 60 are queued or 800), I also get an Android system message about PlexAmp not responding sometimes, it will say “Plexamp isn’t responding”, and I can tap “Close App” or “Wait”. The log zip I’m going to upload here should have this message in it, it was one of the last things that happened before I saved the logs. It was around the time Ratatat / Red Hot Chili Peppers would have been queued for download. I kept tapping “Wait” cuz I wanted the downloads to finish, but Android eventually force closed it anyway. When I re-opened the app, same issue as before, none of the downloads automatically refreshed, I had to manually start each album again.
Also in the log, you may be able to see (not sure how far back it goes), but at some point the album dupe bug happened again. It happened to the album labelled “Alive or Just Breathing 2005 2CD” by Killswitch Engage. Had to delete it, then restart the app for it to clear up all the entries (it makes tens of entries, it might just keep going and going until you stop it), then requeue the album for download.

EDIT4: Oh, and I used to have the app on internal storage, then downloads going to 1tb microSD. But it was having problems with downloads, like it was just downloading the metadata or something… it would download but not put a total playtime in the info and the text would always be yellow, which it does when the download is incomplete. So I moved PlexAmp to microSD, which is also where downloads are going… I noticed performance was just as bad when PlexAmp was on internal storage, though.
EDIT5: Done downloading, looks like everything’s there fine (everything has album art, track count, playtime, white text), hit Play All, takes about 20 seconds then the app crashes. I’m at 302.4gb and 1 month 4 days of downloaded music, if that’s the issue… Play All was working fine when I checked around R being done for artist downloads.
