after plex update on xbox one, I can’t connect to friends server
my server is fine , but when I try to connect to his server to watch a movie on his server it does not let me
Have you tried connecting to your friends server with different client? The latest Xbox app requires rather fresh version of PMS, what version of server your friend has?

i’m only having trouble with xbox one not on pc, I can click on his server and watch movies with no problems
he has windows 10 pro like I do

works fine on ps4’s apple tv and 360 and pc but not on none of my 3 xbox one’s
i am having the exact same problem. i have 2 xbox ones. one can connect to my local server but no remote. the other cannot connect ot ny. By connect i mean i select the servers from the top right and click on any of they (they have the green lock key). Clicking on them makes a noise but does not connect.

So… after much struggle I figured out the issue. It’s not that’s it’s not “working” as much as it’s a terrible user experience with how you select remote server. The “media servers” are only meant to show you which ones are available and are not selectable. To change servers with new update on Xbox One app you select Movies, TV, or etc, then while on one of the icons use up arrow which will reveal the different remote servers you have a connection to and voila!
I felt really stupid after days of thinking it wasn’t working. Although I figured it out I still think it’s a user experience and hope they remedy this.
Wow, you’re right. That is terrible user interface. How the heck were we supposed to know that?
