Having trouble setting up a Music Videos library

I followed the “Global Music Videos Folder” section of the following webpage:

https://support.plex.tv/articles/205568377-adding-local-artist-and-music-videos/

So I entered the path (E:\Music videos) in the Settings Cog for Artists and clicked Save.

Now what?

There isn’t a Music Videos library.

That does not make a music video library. That allows you to add music videos to artists you already have in your music library.

That’s a shame.

You can create a generic ‘misc’ library for music videos, work out videos, or other content which may not fit or cannot get automatic metadata.

Music videos without metadata may suck, but at least you will be able to browse through them and play them.

Metadata would be lovely.

I have set them up as an ‘Other videos’ library but even though I have the year in each video’s filename (Artist - Title (2017)), Plex just puts 2019 for them all. It’s a shame.

if you followed the section @ “Global Music Videos Folder” in your above link, you should find the music videos under the applicable ARTIST in the Music library.

unfortunately there is not a music video library that is separate from the music library.

Music Videos are essentially considered a different type of music file that is kept with audio files (or audio library).

I have not tried, but you may able to create some ‘smart’ playlists using filters that will make it easier to find the music videos.

I followed the section @ “Global Music Videos Folder” in above link, but could not find any music videos under the applicable ARTIST in the Music library.

You need to refresh the artist data.

Thanks. That is indeed the trick is. The content of the global music video folder is only recognized after Refreshing Metadata of the music library or the artist.
