HD Homerun Extend suddenly recording .ts files instead of mkv

Running version 1.8.0.4109

I have the quality set to “highest” which is supposed to use the extend to transcode to MKV files which it previously did and now I am seeing .ts files. Is this a bug that anyone is aware of?

Thanks!

By design. Changed in 1.7.6

Plex Media Server 1.7.6 is now available to PlexPass users

NEW:
(Web) Updated Plex Web to 3.10.0
(Local Media Agent) Treat IETF subtitle language extensions as ISO 639-1 (eg; pt-BR)
(DVR) Use MPEGTS for all DVR recordings

Thanks for the response.

This is to handle DVR activities? I’m trying to understand why they made this change that negates the capabilities of my tuner that I paid extra for and now requires encoding on my Plex clients.

The highest setting never created the mkv container. The highest setting converts the codec used for the video from MPEG-2 stream coming into the Extend to H264 before sending to Plex. Plex then saves the H264 recording into the ts container. Prior versions of Plex Media Server 1.6.1 and earlier used the ts container for recordings. In 1.7.0 the container was switched to mkv but many users reported issues with the mkv container including issues with not being able to extract subtitle and closed captioning. It has never been confirmed by Plex but many believe the switch back in 1.7.6 to the ts container was to allow hearing disabled users to again be able to extract the subtitles and closed captioning.

Thanks again. Is the top here for the extend no longer valid?

I just want to know what is best for my server resources.
