HD Homerun on Shield TV

Hello

Just purchased the HD Homerun for use on my NVIDIA Shield TV. Setup went fine, and the homerun is broadcasting correctly. I was able to setup live TV properly on my computer, however when I select my Shield TV Plex server it is unable to find the homerun device. I’ve tried manually entering the IP, but it triggers an error message.

When I view my network all the devices are there, however I can’t tell if they can all see each other. Everything else works great, but this is stumping me.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Weird mine locates and works yet not all channels work…hmmm

I’ve noticed that my Shield TV Plex server is not available outside my network. My understanding is that shouldn’t matter, but my guess is there’s a connection. I’ve set it up with a static IP and port forwarding, but no change. It appears that my computer can see all my network devices, but my Shield TV cannot.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Just wanted to close this thread in case it helps someone else. I was able to get it working, but am not quite sure what the cure was. Here’s what I did:

  1. Check if you have a VPN running, and if so turn it off.
  2. Remove the server from your account and reclaim it. I did this a couple times.
  3. Try port forwarding the IP for your NVIDIA Shield. I don’t know if this helped, but it didn’t hurt.
  4. Wait.

I did the above steps a few times without success, then gave up for a few hours and suddenly it worked. Perhaps it takes some time for Plex to register the changes. Also, it doesn’t appear to matter if the server has remote access, that was a red herring. Mine still doesn’t have it, yet it now correctly accesses live TV.

Hope this helps.

So I’m not an expert, having only done this once. But based on my experience, you only need to have access to a browser to set up live TV. Log into your Plex account, and you should be given the option to launch Plex (top right if I recall). Once you do this it should pick up any Plex servers you’ve set up. Select Settings, then on the left side towards the bottom there will be an option for live TV. Select it, and it will walk you through the steps.

You’ll need the browser for the initial set up, but once it’s done you can access it on your Shield TV.

But once it set up on plex hd home run you can remote access the locals away from your home network like I can with my plex movies

Thanks will look into it
