Hdhomerun connect 4k, does it work with Plex?

Just purchased the hdhomerun connect 4K and was wondering will Plex live TV play local channels in 4k natively or have any issues? I’m in the Tampa area so we will be getting 4K locals on December 1st!

It won’t work yet, because the AC4 audio codec is currently not supported in Plex.

Appreciate the response. Just ordered one hopefully it’ll support that in the future:)

Do you think it would just transcode the audio down or it wouldn’t be able to play the 4K video as well?

First, the licensing need to get done. Then ffmpeg needs to get support for this codec.
Right now, it cannot even decode this format, so you will only get silence.

The picture may show up in Plex clients, either transcoded or direct played, depending on the client device.

Okay cool thank you for the info!

Will it at least receive the current HD format so Plex can work in the meantime?

AFAIK, the AC4 codec is only used in 4K transmissions. So for all the regular FHD transmissions, nothing will change.

I was hoping the 4k HD Homerun would work in NYC since ATSC 3 is not out yet but I tried it with normal HD and SD stations in ATSC 1 and I just get an error message stating “Playback Error : There was an unexpected error during playback. Please visit our forums if you continue to experience problems.” I guess that I have to go back to my older model for the time being…

It looks like it is working today perfectly. Ignore the last post.
