HDhomerun firmware update broke Plex's ability to use the device

After updating the firmware on my HDhomerun, Plex will not connect to it anymore. I tried to add DVR, Plex sees it, finds the channels, but then says there is a problem adding it.

Not into LiveTV here, so of no help, but…

When the Experts spot your thread, they will 4 sure ask the following:

  • Version of PMS
  • Platform of PMS
  • Model of HDHomerun
  • Firmware release not working
  • Firmware release working
  • Logs from PMS in debug mode

We have all of our testing devices on latest firmware without issues. please let us know the info mentioned above

Please switch PMS into debug logging, not verbose:

Then reproduce

Then upload a zip with the logs:

Looks like IE doesn’t like Plex. Can’t log into the forum feom IE (using edge on android right now). Also, when I try tonuse the download log button I get page can’t be displayed. I copied and pasted into notepad then into a zip. Thanks for your effort.

Edit to blur Plex-Token in image

Thank you. I am new.

I’m not a windows user but Edge has an issue with DNS rebinding if i recall.

Those were logs of the web app player, not the server. if having issues with DL button you can grab them manually. https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/

Can’t log in to forum with IE. Only using Edge for forum. Got logs via chrome. Don’t like chrome either. I prefer IE.Plex Media Server Logs_2018-11-22_00-28-54.zip (4.6 MB)

Stop using IE. It’s not being supported or updated anymore. Troubleshooting why random things don’t work in IE is not worth your time.

Thanks Alex. I’m not trying to beta some code, or develop anything.
IE is supported by Plex according to https://support.plex.tv/articles/200392226-plex-web-app-player/
All models of HDhomerun are supported by Plex according to

I am simply trying to get two supported bits to work together on my rig.
KB4467697 released 11/13/2018 contains updates for IE, so Microsoft support is still there. Thanks for the advice.

No more updates. No more security patches. KB4467697 was likely updates they were forced to do in order to not break IE compatibility totally.

Yes technically IE is “supported” by Plex, but no one is going to help you if some weird issue comes up that cannot be duplicated in Chrome or Firefox.

EDIT: Also the reason I am pressing you on this is your original posts claims a new HD Home Run firmware update broke something, even though other people got the same update and nothing broke. You then go on to start having totally unrelated issues grabbing logs because of IE. It starts to paint this picture that the issue might be more to do with strange software issues on your end rather than some kind of fault of Plex or Silicon Dust.

Although I am not a fan of Internet Explorer and I am really surprised to see anybody being a fan, your statements don’t seem to be true for IE11:

Internet Explorer is a component of the Windows operating system and the most current version will continue to follow the specific support lifecycle policy for the operating system on which it is installed. Internet Explorer 11 will be supported for the life of Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10.

Interesting. Okay I will relent here and admit I was incorrect.

However I think my original feelings still stand. He says HD Home Run broke stuff with a firmware update even though others got the same update with no issues, and then later when he is asked for logs he starts having issues with IE. It just seems more like a user specific issue to me where maybe the user needs to troubleshoot their end of things and not assume it is a major issue broken for everyone.

You are probably right about that. And nobody should use IE anymore, ever.

Oh man it’s been like a decade since I saw that maybe? Or maybe not? Time all blurs together now. Anyways thanks for the gigantic belly laugh and yeah IE is garbage and if someone who is trying to troubleshoot something and asks for my help tells me they are using IE it instantly makes me reassess the situation.

Thanks again. How are issues grabbing logs unrelated? The server is web based. The same server GUI is used to grab logs, and add DVR. Seems to be totally related. Like I said, I’m new. IE has always worked the best for me. It is the most compatible with the web pages I frequently use. Plenty of people seem to disagree with you…
https://www.facebook.com/hategooglechrome What you do to OSuX users. Do you kick them while they are down too? Opinions aside, I am paying for a product. This is the only help that I know of for Plex. If it continues to malfunction, I will cancel my subscription and stop recommending Plex. Sling stopped supporting IE and I stopped sending them money. I’m not going to chrome.

I find it interesting that you’re so hell bent on using ie, even to the point of discontinuing using services that don’t work well with it. While it’s technically still supported, ie is legacy software. Microsoft has even stated this. It really is only used for compatibility purposes, mainly by businesses who haven’t updated their software.

You say it works well for the sites you use, but that isn’t really true sense you’ve experienced problems with multiple different sites. Honestly if you can’t get over not using a modern, well supported browser then you should stop using Plex all together and stick to old legacy software.

If it’s just gogle you’re opposed to there are several other browsers to choose from. I personally use chromium, which is an open sourced browser that chrome is based off of. There is several other browsers based off of chromium, opera being the first that comes to mind. Firefox is a great choice as well.

You are in the 1% of consumers that still use ie. It’s time to change or else get stuck in the past.

Like you said, compatibility. I use IE because I find it to be the most compatible. It wasn’t always that way, but for the past decade it has been for me. Most compatible meaning the least issues. Plex is the only website, besides CBS and NBC, that I found to have issues with IE. While Plex may be unique, there are other ways to stream my library that don’t cost a penny. I’ve been streaming my library for more than 15 years. Plex is the first time I have paid for any such thing. I tried it because I like the GUI. I am not hell bent, just have had a much different expereience than you. If IE is as bad as you say, then no one would support it. chrome may be the most popular, but IE is still #2. https://netmarketshare.com/browser-market-share.aspx
Above all, paid services should provide what they advertise. I’m not saying Plex doesn’t, for the past 3 months they have been great.

Use whatever you wish, but something is obviously broke on your end. And to (temporarily) use a different piece of software to single out the bug responsible for your problem seems to be a valid option to me. Otherwise you mingle several bugs/problems that you might have at the same time.
