Plex not recognizing HD Homerun device-HDHR-1070A65C

Recap of the issue: HDHomerun is failing to set up. I have tried it a number of times and it continues to fail. It hangs trying to find my HDHomerun device. I can access the HDhomerun unit directly from my computer just fine. It is working, but PLEX can’t seem to find it or initialize it. I tried a second HDHomerun unit, and it worked just fine for one day. It seems that Plex crashed over night, and now it won’t show the HDhomerun / live tv again … I tried to add it again, and it failed, went back to my original hdhomerun unit, and it still fails to initialize. This all happened when I upgraded to the latest release of PLEX. HELP !!!

Per your request, I enable debugging and recycled my Plex server. I attempted to set up my HD HomeRun device HDHR-1070A65C @ IP: 192.168.1.214. Your Automatic find for the device failed, however I was able to type in the hostname address manually: HDHR-1070A65C, I was able to select “Connect” and able to click on the “Continue” button allowed me to continue with the setup.

On the next screen I was able to scan for channels, and was successful in finding 22 channels and was able to select the “Continue” Button. I was able to input my Zip code and the setup was able to scan all the channels and name them appropriately. Upon selecting Continue, the system responded by saying “Setup complete!
You can now find your Guide and Recordings in the sidebar under “Live TV”. While we’re grabbing the guide data, you can start browsing; it will update automatically as we download what’s on.” HOWEVER, when I try to view the Guide, it is not available, My only option is to close. Once again, I go back to the “Live TV/DVR” I’m back at the “SET UP PLEX DVR” Screen. The Plex server never initializes the DVR, the guide is not loaded and the option for the DVR aren’t available. It appears to work, however, it never completes. Logs are attached.Plex Media Server Logs_2018-08-02_01-16-29.zip (2.8 MB)

Please note, that up to the last upgrade of Plex, this same HD HomeRun device was working perfectly for a couple of months. As stated in my original message, after it failed, I pulled out my old HD HomeRun Entend device, and it installed correctly for a day, then Plex crashed over night, and when I went to restart Plex, it came up without the DVR Again … Now neither unit will connect to plex.
the unit HDHR01070A65C is Model HDHR5-4US, Device ID 1070A65C running Firmware: 20180327 (the latest firmware).

I have uninstalled Plex and reinstalled it, and it still won’t allow me to add my hdhomerun device. HELP PLEX Support

I have also gone into the Windows registry and deleted every reference to HDHomeRun and tried reinstalling. This also failed.

I resolved my issue by deleting the entire PlexServer directory, reinstalling PLEX, and reinitializing from scratch. At his point everything appears to be working … but time will tell … will update in 24 hours

am having the same problem exactly.

This is an awful solution. Plex team please fix without requiring 24 hours effort on your user end. I had HDHomerun working fine until latest update.

How did you sort that out? I had been looking online to find the previous version of PLEX but was unsuccessful. I ended up deleting my entire database and having to reload everything. It’s been taking me over a week to do that and it’s still not done sorting out my music. PLEX keeps crashing after a few hours. That could be because my PLEX database and all my libraries are on a synapse NAS and it can’t keep up with the volume of traffic.

I download and save all versions I install. But it seems CWallace has a method to get older version: HOWTO DOWNLOAD PREVIOUS PLEX VERSION

I can’t take credit for the info in that post, I was just a reposter.

But it changed how I upgrade Plex. Now I go to the website and download the new installer when a new version comes out . I archive those installers. That way if I have to revert to an older version I have the installers already. Luckily I haven’t had to revert since I discontinued using the DVR/Live TV feature and have stayed on the current beta without problems.

Agree. Current version was better, but it killed the TV/DVR. I also download and archive all previous installers just for safe keeping.

Can you post the exact name of your previous version you installed. Apparently, based on the article you posted, you need the exact naming and binary bits in the download address. e.g.

https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/1.13.5.5291-6fa5e50a8/Plex-Media-Server-1.13.5.5291-6fa5e50a8.exe
This is the current version that is failing. I’m looking for the version just prior to this one to hopefully fix my problem

I am using Linux (Mint). This seems to work on MacOS and Linux. Try this first:

Plex stores older versions of PMS on your mac when you upgrade. Check the folder Library/Applications Support/Plex Media Server/Updates There you have all the previous versions of the PMS.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Works on Ubuntu, too!

I backed off to version 1.13.4.5271, but apparently it has not resolved my issue. That or the database is already corrupt and will have to start from scratch… Still hoping PLEX support will reach out and help.

I am having a similar issue. My HD Homerun worked great until the latest Plex update. Then it stopped working. I tried to reinstall everything, but Plex cannot find the HD Homerun anymore. I can reach it via IP address and it works great. When I install it via IP address in Plex, I get a red error message box that says “There was a problem adding the device.”

I have to say, I have never seen a representative from Plex every contribute an answer to a forum. Is this just a place for us all to talk about bugs, or does anything ever get resolved here?

Exact same problem as the OP. I haven’t used it in like 6 months due to a move. Came back to add it with Setup and it just hangs trying to search for it. Click Manually add IP. Add the IP. Click Connect. Still spins like its searching but the Continue button goes yellow and allows me to click it. I can click it and finish the process including searching for channels. But it won’t show up at the end.

I’d prefer not to go back to an older version just for live tv.

Why support not solve this issue?!
For what we pay Plex Pass? And it’s not working…

Having same issue since last Plex update (right after I upgraded to lifetime Plex Pass). Using Ubuntu for my Plex Server with an HD HomeRun 4. All was well until said update. No response from Plex on this topic. So now I have a HD HomeRun brick. I’ll try your suggestion(s) and see what happens. In the meantime we need someone from Plex to step up! Maybe I should cancel my lifetime Plex Pass and use HD’s app instead. Hmmmm … there’s a thought.

You need to get into your database folder example (M:\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases) shut down your server and remove all of the .db-shm and .db-wal files. When you restart your server it will create new ones and your DVR will be available again.
