HDHomeRun Live TV Issue / First time use feedback

Hi,

Just brought myself a HDHomeRun Quatro for UK use. I’ve been wanting to buy one since plex Live TV / DVR came out however didn’t want to buy one until Grid View EPG came out. Now it has, here are some issue’s / first time use feedback i have of it.

Live TV Connection Issue’s:

  1. Live TV SD channel quality is just really poor (95% of the time it just won’t play any SD channels), I understand it is transmitted VIA PAL at 576p resolution. Why is it only listed as Convert to 576p (Maximum) where HD channel’s play original? HD looks great compared to TV, SD looks terrible and struggles to even play.

  1. I am struggling half the time to even get the Live TV channel even working, below is only one of the errors, seems to work on HDHomeRun app, just not here.

To see if my set-up is the issue for 1&2 I have listed the chain below:
Outdoor digital Aerial -> 2 way coaxial splitter (1 end not connected) -> HDHomeRun Quatro (latest firmware) -> BT AV600 Powerline extender -> ISP Router -> NAS (Qnap TS-453A)
Plex server is running on my NAS, Hardware acceleration for Trans-coding is currently turned on (unsure if it is using it).

Side note: When I added the Device (Quatro) to plex it asked which something to use, I clicked Over-Air-Broadcast or something, should I have chosen Freeview instead?

First Time Use Feedback:

  1. It had taken me 5 attempts of channel re-scanning to atleast get all channels, evidence is that on the 5th attempted channel ‘Dave’ finally appeared. BBC was using west midlands instead of East Midlands, downloaded HDHomeRun config for windows, set it up re-scanned, it found more channels and set up BBC for East Midlands. Am I scanning for channels wrong? How can I always make sure it use’s correct centre for channels like BBC?
  2. I found that the channels enabled list was quiet poor, is there a way to re-arrange channel list? As I would rather have HD channel 101-105 at the start then SD channel 1-5.
  3. I tested out the DVR didn’t quite like the idea of adding recordings to my pre-defined libraries, so I had to create ‘TV Recordings’ and ‘Movie Recordings’ Libraries for saved files, just a shame you can’t use 1 Library or location for all DVR Recordings.
  4. I find that the DVR section isn’t all that great for experience wise, personally I would want the recordings experience to be like any other DVR box, Sky, Virgin, Freeview Box etc where from your Recordings listings, you delete your saved DVR files.

DVR Issue’s:

  1. Issue for recordings section, I tested the DVR feature and then deleted them via Plex web once tested the recordings played, and now I am stuck with those 2 recordings still on my Recordings list when I have deleted those recordings! Please make sure that the recordings sections delete’s anything I don’t have anymore, make it like a DVR box experience.
  2. Issue I found that when playing back DVR recordings when I watched until programme started the Picture and Audio un-synced it self so I exited the playback, click play on it again, Start from where left off, and then Picture and Audio re-synced, happened for both DVR Recordings. (Remove commercials settings was on)

Side Question
When click record on a show, it ask’s ‘This Episode’ or ‘All Episodes’, If have already have some episodes of that show already in 1 Library, but decided save DVR recordings to a dedicated library section will it detect I have some already in Different library and only record missing episodes?
Or will it record all episodes as the already collected show episodes are in a different library?
If I choose to save the DVR Recording to the library where I already have the show + episodes, will it correctly save the file in structure I already have or save it somewhere else? E.G. Show Name -> Season 1 -> Episode
