Tuner Make/Model: HDHomeRun Extend and Duo
Guide/Lineup name:
Using XMLTV?: No
Channel number/Name: All Live TV Channels
My Plex installation can no longer open channels from either of my two HDHomeRuns. I get multiple different errors when trying to open a channel:
- The live session has ended.
- Error code: s1003 (Network)
- Could not tune channel
This includes whether using AppleTV, a browser on the desktop computer hosting the server, Android cell phone, and Nvidia Shield. However, the HDHomeRun native app works on all devices.
I have the HDHomeRun Config GUI and my Signal Strength% is near 100%; Signal Quality % between 85-100, and Symbol Quality is 95-100%. However, when trying to open a channel, the GUI usually doesn’t show any signal being sent thru network.
What I have done each multiple times:
- rescanned both HDHRs
- Rebooted computer hosting server and HDHRs
- Uninstalled completely and re-installed Plex Media Server software
- Downgraded quality of Transcoding to “Prefer higher speed encoding”
- Installed Jellyfin on same desktop as a test and that works without issue.
- Turned off Windows Defender Firewall Software on desktop computer.
Additionally, if I do try to open a channel, the server shows that it is recording a Live TV - Session even though I am not watching anything nor do I have any schedule DVR recordings.

I have the same problem when trying to play saved shows from DVR but can watch Plex Channels. The HDHomeRuns and the desktop hosting the Plex Media Server are all on my main home LAN.
I have found multiple mentions of similar problems throughout the internet but none of them have a resolution. I am a long-time paid customer of Plex and this problem has been in the last few months. I have been relying on the HDHomeRun native app.
