Running Plex server on a Windows server. I want to add OTA/DVR. I’m considering the Silicon Dust HDHomeRun Connect Quatro, or the Hauppauge WinTV-QuadHD-USB devices. They are both 4-tuner devices. The HDHomeRun connects directly to your home network with an Ethernet port. The WinTV connects to the Plex server with USB-3. Otherwise, they seem to have similar capabilities and specs. One difference would be that I can still watch live TV with the HDHomeRun even if my Plex server is offline, whereas the USB connected WinTV will not work without the server.
Anyone have experience with both or information that may be helpful to me making the decision? The price for each is close enough that I’m not too concerned about that as a differentiator.
See if this little tidbit helps your decision: HDHomeruns are actually available for purchase, while the Hauppauge tuner isn’t coming available again until at least early April.
I ordered the Hauppauge back in February, but immediately got a note it was on backorder. I waited a month, followed up, and still not coming until April
I therefore have the HDHomerun despite my preference for the internal card (and therefore support from my UPS). Other than the lack of signal strength support to help tune the antenna, I don’t have any complaints with the HD. It tunes well, does what it should, and generally works as expected. Integration with PMS is seamless.
I obviously had no experience with the Hauppauge, but can tell you the HDHomerun works fine.
