HDHomeRun PRIME DRM Possible Solution

DRM channels started working in the HDHomeRun app on my AndroidTV device today. The channels started in Audio-only mode, but then the app prompted for location services access and I could view the channel. Is this something that Plex could implement to allow these channels to show?

My app has worked w/ DRM cable channels for quite a while. But recently a local OTA ATSC 3.0 broadcaster has put DRM on their broadcast making it unviewable.

As for the HDHR app, Silicone Dust paid $$$ to get their app certified by Cable Labs which costs big $$$ to do. That is $$$ that Plex is not going to pay. Also I have a vague understanding that if ANYTHING changes in the pipeline that will handle the DRM content is changed (read a minor code change in Plex) you must start the entire process over again. SD was developing a 6 tuner cable tuner, but parts suppliers kept going belly up or product lines they were using were discontinued, so they just gave up on the Prime-6. With a product like PMS that is constantly developing and evolving, it would always be waiting for recertification.

A better solution would be for the FCC to abolish DRM period. It benefits no one except Cable Labs and hampers the consumer from enjoying the content that they ALREADY SUBSCRIBE TO in the manner they chose.

Regarding my local broadcasters and the ATSC 3.0 broadcasts: I cannot receive all of my local channels in 1.0 currently at my home location. However, I can receive all of these channels in 3.0. Three of the four channels are encrypted with DRM. I am using the latest hardware available (HDHomeRun 3.0 Flex 4k coupled with a Plex server and digital antennae mounted on my roof) to receive these over the air broadcasts. But due to the DRM encryption, my hardware currently cannot decode these channels for viewing. In my view DRM is an added burden blocking my ability to get these channels. Since ATSC 1.0 and previous analog standard broadcasts were unencrypted, my question is why DRM is being applied now? It seems like Nextstar Media and other station owners across the country are trying to profit and lock out what used to be free broadcasts. I object to the use of the public airways being used this way and the public deserves better.

You can submit your complaints to the FCC and sign a petition if you are so inclined. Follow the lon.tv YouTube channel for information on how to do so. Hopefully my tuner will be upgraded to DRM soon, and Plex will address DRM and the Dolby version 4 audio issue.
