For anyone familiar with Freeview, the HD channels are separate to their SD counterparts. Confusingly HDHomeRun sticks BBC One HD under 5012 instead of the standard 101 — is there any reason for this?
I have literally just installed and tuned my HDHomeRun tuner so I’ve not had chance to dig around in Plex yet. Does Plex do some sort of magical upscaling between the standard version, is that why it’s put at this range and turned off initially?
…or am I better just disabling device channels 1 through 5, and enabling their HD versions instead?
(Apologies for the confusion around this; I thought there might be some way to reorganise the channels to have the HD versions at the forefront, but on initial Google, it seems these are fixed through HDHomeRun.)

I have disabled all the SD variants of the HD channels as the way Plex displays TV listings is just confusing with both on. I tend to disable all the rubbish channels and +1 variants as well just keep the EPG tidy.
I only use mine for recording though so you might want them left on.
I’ve been playing around and reconfiguring DVR in multiple ways and it seems there is discrepancy between the web and iOS/tvOS versions.
It seems that Plex is smart enough to ‘upscale’ SD content. On the discover page, it’ll show the HD versions if available.
Also; on the web, going through to “Watch now” for channel listings will replace BBC One (1) with BBC One HD (101).
This is not the case on iOS/tvOS where it’s just as expected, SD version is at 1. This still does ‘upscaling’ on the discover tab, however.
I did have a brief stint where I would set the HD channels to use the SD channel listings, so they’d float to the top as channel 1, etc. but this appears to have the affect of marking the content as SD opposed to HD – I fear this would reek havoc with recording HD only, etc.
UPDATE: It seems that Plex Media Player also will prefer the HD content, and takes this even further by giving the option to select a quality (although, some appear to double up, perhaps from ‘+1’ listings?).
