The LG CX tells you when you started an HDR video source and the plex menu is not, occasionally when starting an HDR movie in the LG CX plex app, HDR does not start but by going back to the library and starting it again fixes it (and colours look terrible). The problem might also appear when you resume the tv from standby/idle state.
