HDR video transcodes when audio needs to be transcoded (no subtitles)

For the last releases i’ve been experiencing an issue where if a media file that has an HDR video stream needs to transcode audio, the video is also transcoded.

  • HDR tone mapping has been disabled on the server.
  • Issue is limited to HDR content with transcoding audio, normal 4k content plays correctly with or without audio transcoding
  • Disabling audio passthrough fixes video transcode, but then i only get stereo audio

I’ve tried multiple files, multiple android tv versions including beta. Same problem. I need audio transcoding as my avr does not have support for newer audio codecs

I’ve noticed the same thing. I use bluetooth headphones which don’t support EAC3, and it was able to transcode audio to OPUS while Direct Streaming the HEVC HDR video. Now (not sure when it started), it will force video transcode when audio is transcoding too. Quite annoying. Disabling passthrough doesn’t seem to fix it however.

Please fix!
