Working fine for us although I did vote for the function.
I changed the save setting in iOS for reasons other than for Plex.
I do have iAmazing doing its thing on other users photos however.

Please Plex⦠I want to use again the photos feature, put it is impossible for me at this moment.
You would have thought with so much response to this topic and the number of open questions still outstanding on HEIC/HEIF that Plex would have addressed the issue by now. HEIC/HIEF has become an industry standard and that JPG will soon be obsolete. Does this mean we soon wonāt be able to view newer photos in the future. Copying photos from an iPhone as default does not use JPG. Therefore, you have to do a conversion either at time of transfer from the phone or afterwards with a third party piece of software. Both tend to loose photo information which is important.
Come on Plex team⦠Please address this photo issue.
HEIC/HEIF support please Plexā¦
Hi
I start 2024 with the same request years after years :
Also waiting patiently for several years now for HEIF/HEIC support
Never ending wish. Donāt use Plex anymore. Beta of emby seems to integrate support of heic/heiff
Really? I havenāt looked at Emby in a few years. If they enable HEIC, I may have to give them a go again.
Still amazed this is not handled, even if in some beta or ālabā type form for user smoke testing.
For me, the biggest draw of HEIC is the smaller file sizes. I also like that the color depth and dynamic range is better. Having to convert all your photos just for Plex is kind of nonsense, especially if you have thousands of photos over the years.
Iām think that the Plex photo support is on life support so Iām likely moving to photo prism for self hosting:
That looks nice, for sure. I have OneDrive which works well enough now. But, I was liking the one stop shop of plex and easily sharing photos so people can see them on their TVs instead of logging into a computer or on a small phone.
Iām new to Plex, just took advantage of the PlexPass deal over Christmas and Iām loving it. Or, I was but now Iām reconsidering.
Iāve had a post in the forum up for a couple days because Iām missing photos in some folders, and in some recent months the full month folder doesnāt even show up. Spent a while trying to figure this out until I noticed tonight that the most recent folder has 115 HEIC files and the remaining 8, which do show up, are MOV or JPG.
A quick Google eventually lead here and Iām stunned to see how long this has been a feature request, and amazed that itās now 2024 and Plex canāt handle these files. Whatās really annoying is the verbiage on the Plex site which says āfull format supportā, and āOriginal quality in any formatā and āAdd and manage your photos and videos (in any file format) without sacrificing quality.ā which are apparently all untrue.

Itās really got me thinking about just pulling all the photos out of Plex and just having a manual archive on the Synology and relying on OneDrive and Amazon Photos.
Welcome to the party!
2024 and still not supported,
WE NEED THIS!!!
If youāre already a competent self hosted Immich is 1000 times better than Plex.
any updates on this? I just migrated from my icloud and I really donāt want to convert all my HEIC imagesā¦
I am also very disappointed about the fact that this issue was raised 7 years ago and there still is no solution. Especially since when converting my HEIC images to JPEG it seems as if the problem with the timeline and wrong dates has not been resolved either. For me, Plex seems to order my photos by date added and not creation date.
A whole lot of pictures are now getting taken in that format and its lack of support is really problematic.

Some guidance on when the support will come would be useful.
+1 for HEIC support. Note that Android P will support HEIC as a standard format as well.
