[HELP] eAC3 Audio Playing Video Frozen

Server Version#:ongoing
Player Version#: ongoing

Hello,
I’m having trouble playing videos with eac3 audio encoding at a bitrate of 1536kbps . On the Android TV (Nvidia Shield) it starts to play if you fast forward a couple of seconds but video freezes at one point and stays that way with no error message while the audio continues.

I have tried deleting the codec folder and the changing the notify table directories and none of these worked, tried different sample rates and encode engines.

Diving into the PMS folders I see that there’s a cap of eAC3 at 1022kbps, is this true and if so how do I remove the cap? I can provide a sample of said files but it won’t be until tomorrow. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Orginal eAC3 audio untouched
Encoded eAC3 Audio plus Original Audio

Mod/Admin please advise I marked for deletion since there is no support in this matter and don’t want to take up space.

I had the same issue, using 2019 Shield tube version, EAC3 7.1 at 1536 kbps resulted in frozen/paused video, I upgraded server version and problem persisted, upgraded player version on the Shield and its now working. Below are my current version #s.

Server Version 1.19.5.3112
Player Version 8.4.2.19372

I have
Server: 1.20.0.3181
Client: 8.4.2.19372

Problem still persist, @fataldog187 did you uninstall/ reinstall anything? This is bugging me out.

No, I didn’t, I used the built-in update on the server and went through the Google play store on Shield just hitting the Update button. Using Windows 10 on the server. I may have restarted the Shield, I don’t remember. My Shield is connected directly to a 1080p display using HDMI, not using a receiver if that makes a difference. Here is the media info of the two files where I was having the issue: https://pastebin.com/r2mTAfWv

Reviving this old thread because I ran into the exact same problem. This gave me some additional information that the issue is the bitrate, which now makes sense why my EAC3 2.0 files playback fine. Any word from devs on this issue?

Sadly no word from devs…although a mod let me know they’re aware and that’s all…

Bumping as this is still an issue with any Android TV device.
Any E-AC3 7.1 audio file results in a still image being displayed, as well as the playback time counting backwards if the video is forwarded.

This happens with passthrough, but only on Android. Disabling passthrough plays fine, but stutters if Dolby Vision is also present.
My LG C8 using the webOS Plex app has no problem playing the same files.

Yep, problem still persists with same max bitrate of 1020 Kbps. This cap of bitrate is only exclusive to PleX as E*** can play test files fine. I’ve tried all I can to get some devs attention for this as this is fixable but to no avail.

I’m not sure what that is supposed to be, but for what it’s worth ExoPlayer has issues with the audio at and over 1536 kb/s, including crackling and popping on the SHIELD (at least with Dolby Vision).

That is Emby, except censored. No issue on there at all with any audio and AFIK they use Exoplayer as well.

Yea but the Plex app behaves differently with audio, as the still frame only appears with Passthrough (I don’t know what ExoPlayer does).

Otherwise, this issue also happens with any EAC3 5.1/7.1 along with Dolby Vision and audio passthrough. Though I can’t get it to play smoothly without passthrough either.
