Help! Every Album Gets Billy Joel Poster

I just started ripping CDs. I am making sure all the metadata is correct. The first album I added was Billy Joel. Now every album I add gets the Billy Joel post for it’s icon. If I watch the process of data syncing I see the correct poster for about 2 seconds, then it changes to Bill Joel. I can manually change the poster by editing it, but that seems ridiculous. I even deleted all Billy Joel Songs from the directory and delete the album from within Plex. Even with no Billy Joel songs, every album gets his poster. Any help would be appreciated.

what you describe sounds like Plex is showing the embedded artwork/poster until it matches the music. this could indicate either some confusing metadata (e.g. accidental wrong album artist or artist tag in the file) or an issue with the file names / folder structure.

can you give a brief reference on how you have organized your albums (file names, folder structure)? did you follow the conventions described in the related Plex Support Articles? https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/media-preparation/naming-and-organizing-music-media/

I only have 6 CDs in my music folder so far. They all have accurate embedded metadata. However, I have all the songs in the same folder. I did not make separate folders for each album. As I said before, when I add new songs to my “Music” folder, scan the library file, the name of the album and artist are accurate. The correct poster shows up for a few seconds, and then switches to Billy Joel. When I go to edit the album, both the Billy Joel and correct poster are there. I have to choose the co0rrect one an save. It’s almost like there is a default poster setting somewhere that needs to be turned off. (I have no problems with movies)

as it’s only 6 albums… let’s give it a try to apply the proper folder structure.
if you have proper metadata tags this is supposed to be less critical – however it might still be involved in your current situation

Support Article: Adding Music Media from Folders

Premium Music Library or Embedded Metadata
If your content already has (accurate) embedded metadata, then Plex will use that information for matching in a default install. Similarly, Plex Pass members who use our Premium music library will have their music matched via sonic fingerprinting.
In such a case, your file naming and organization isn’t as critical, though we do still certainly encourage you to be organized and consistent. For instance, the standard iTunes organization would be fine in this situation:

  • Music/ArtistName/AlbumName/TrackNumber - TrackName.ext

Tip!: When using a Premium music library, we strongly encourage you to continue organizing tracks into albums. Using a flat file list of tracks can result in the sonic fingerprinting erroring out.

THE SOLUTION: OttoKerner responded to me and suggested selecting the folder and showing hidden files, and OS files in explorer Sure enough, there were 4 jpg files with 4 different names all with the offending Billy Joel image. I deleted them all, refreshed the metadata and the world is in order again. Thank you all for your responses.
